Conservatives look to build support ahead of potential federal election

It’s a big weekend for the country’s official opposition. More than 3,000 Conservative delegates are taking part in a virtual convention. They’ve been debating policy and strategy to gear-up for a potential federal election this year. But there are signs of frustration. Some members aren’t keen on the direction of the party.

Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole unveiled elements of his election pitch to Canadians Friday, seeking to ease his party’s jitters that they’re without an offering solid enough to woo voters away from the Trudeau Liberals.

His marquee speech to the party’s policy convention contained what he billed as a “recovery plan” that would within one year restore one million jobs lost to the COVID-19 pandemic.

I'm OK with the Conservatives not adding climate change to their policy book. This means they will have a lot of problems becoming a ruling party. Of course, I want them to do things that will decrease their chances of winning. The good thing is that they don't need any help LOL

Even though there are younger Conservatives, the reality is that younger generations (many but not all of them) place climate change as a key issue as well as inclusion (not just diversity - anyone can have diversity). As the oldies die, Conservatives will have less and less support. So I say, keep being the old Conservative party and eventually the NDP will surpass them as the second choice.
