I’m 32 and hadn’t been to a dentist since I was 17. I’ve had an intense fear of the dentist due to an experience there as a kid. This April, I developed an infection in an upper molar that basically caused trismus and I had no choice but to go to a dentist. I almost passed out and all that was happening was an X-ray was being taken. Lol. Yikes. But then...He was SO comforting! I ended up needing it to be extracted along with all four wisdom teeth. I was so scared at that appointment that I couldn’t even hold my pen to fill out my paperwork. I’d heard so many wisdom tooth horror stories that I was terrified. I had NO pain! None. I couldn’t believe it. I got brave last week and called my dentist’s office for next steps and I went for my first cleaning in over a decade on this past Wednesday and my hygienist (which is so cool to say...”I have a hygienist” lol) was INCREDIBLE! I had no pain or anything. A 15 year fear of the dentist is GONE. It’s unreal! Thank you for all you do and thank you for creating such a judgment free and informative environment! I’ve learned so much from your channel!

My fears: The fact that I've never been to the dentist(and the fear of judgement for that), and the fear of all the work I'll probably need and the money it will cost.

I think my anxiety stems from guilt since I struggle with actually brushing my teeth routinely.

Just came from a filling appointment and I can tell you I wonder why I even feared this to begin with. I spent all night watching dental needle insertion videos and educating myself. I saw young kids not even flinch while getting injected and wondered why a 26 year old like me was freaking out. Turns out the procedure was completely painless. Uncomfortable yes, the drilling part, but totally bearable for like half a minute. I closed my eyes, did not see the syringe, I had taken Valium an hour before, I also asked for numbing gel and then lastly played my favorite music. It was so quick and painless I quickly arranged to have my next filling done within a week. I honestly dont know why I had the fear, it’s unfounded.

It’s the drilling sounds and pain that scare the crap out of me.

Worst part is walking in and sitting in the chair waiting to be called 😑

there are so much reasons for me: fear of pain that I used to feel when I was a kid, fear that dentist won't wait long enough for an aesthetic to work and not listen to me when I say I still can feel pain (been there too), fear that aesthetic won't work at all cause I'm stressing too much, then there are drilling noises and smell that make my stomach hurt, guilt that I let my teeth decay to this stage (even if it's not that bad, I feel like the dentist will be disgusted anyway and will judge me), and then there's the bill, cause you don't know in advance how much I have to pay and it freaks me out! I have my appointment later today and I woke up with cold sweaty hands(

I have a dental appointment today for a tooth emergency plus I have to get lots of work done as I haven’t been in 10 years or longer. I hate the dentist out of fear of judgement. I suffered from depression and anxiety for years and neglected myself… I mean I couldn’t of cared less if I died much less if my teeth were clean. I’m so nervous. Send prayers and encouragement. Thanks guys 🙏🏽

I had a panic attack after getting local anesthetic and left after because I just couldn’t do it. This video helped me realize that place wasn’t the right fit and that I went in underprepared. Thank you. Hope I can find a dentist as anxiety informed as you!

I am 65 years of age, always had a fear of dentist, since childhood, the worst memories) although had dental work done over the years , not satisfied with my smile, so I just made the decision, that it’s time, let them take out the old & replace with a new, panic attacks, the heart beating 100 x a minute, sweaty palms, too hot, flashes, you name it, that’s me😀😀😀😀always, tomorrow is “D” day, but I’ll get through & so will you😀😀😀

I’m going in for my first real appointment in over 10years. I had a consultation last week and it really wasn’t that bad. My anxiety came from just going to the consultation and seeing that needed to be done. If you also have dental anxiety, please go. You can do it. I’m now more excited to fix my teeth than anxious. You got this! You are not alone.

Really thank you for this. I sweat through my shirt, shake uncontrollably and burst into tears at the dentist during the "normal" cleaning. My teeth are so painful and my fear of the pain is horrible too.

I do think i may have a good team now, because this morning i went for the cleaning and as i started panicking, the dentist stopped and completely slowed it down. We discussed and decided that was enough for today, and booked an appt for next week with an anti anxiety med and nitrous, to see if that will help. Taking off the pressure and telling me i didn't just "have to get through it" were very helpful. I'm incredibly ashamed of how i am at the dentist, and just hoping i can still change over time.

I have sensory overload, anxiety and I’m on the autism spectrum. So going to the dentist is always a struggle for me, I had braces when I was a teenager which was not fun for me at all as I was also going through a tough time with my anxiety at the time. I then had to get my wisdom teeth taken out, which thankfully I was asleep for. Up until this past year, I didn’t go to the dentist regularly and my teeth brushing wasn’t regular either. But I found a great dentist and I am now serious about fixing my gums and teeth. They’re not horrible, but they could be better. I don’t want them to get any worse! I finally got the courage to overcome my fear and now I’m on top of things.

when I was a kid and I used to go to the dentist they would poke and stab me with the tools when they would clean my teeth and it really hurt. Now I'm a bit older I still get anxious about going to the dentist I don't like the sounds and I'm terrified of needles.

I got a filling today and I'm always really scared when I go to the dentist due to trauma as a child. I watched this video before I went, and it gave me the courage to open up about my dental anxiety and the whole thing went so smoothly. The dentist was great and really helped me calm down and talked to me to keep me distracted. Thank you so much, Whitney, for all that you do :)
