As a CRE recruiter, I would just say that you should expect to take a step back if you're further along in your career and want to break in. This really goes for any time you make a change in your career path but it's particularly true in CRE (at least on the lender side). Make no mistake, it is a niche sector and without the requisite experience, it's going to be difficult to just slide into a role at the same level as your current or most recent role. Don't let this discourage you if you have passion for the industry but make sure to curb your expectations and look for roles that you're truly qualified for.
