i change mine every year it never has looked that bad holy smokes man... Your compressor must be passing stuff.

You don’t have to drain the air to remove the filter. There is a check valve that won’t allow air to flow back to the compressor.

Lubricate that square ring with oil instead of greasing it'll come off easier
