The Bone Wars, or Great Dinosaur Rush, was a 19th-century feud between paleontologists Cope and Marsh, marked by espionage and rivalry. They raced to unearth dinosaur fossils in the American West, discovering iconic dinosaurs like Triceratops and Stegosaurus. Their competition revolutionized paleontology but also led to controversy and financial ruin. #dinosaur #paleontology #fossil #dinosaurs #history

Many of the new species Cope and Marsh discovered turned out to be different specimens of the same species. They were so obsessed with discovering the most species that they overlooked (maybe intentionally) the obvious similarities between the fossils. Decades later after both men passed, Paleontologists reevaluated many of their specimens and determined that many of the dinosaurs they described were actually individuals of the same species.
