In this video I melt a lawnmower motor, to get clean aluminum ingots. and I talk about how I built the melting pot. for info on the burner build see the first video in the play list (waste oil burner and melting metal)

This has to be the smartest setup I've ever seen! Absolutely amazing. This just inspired me so much. This is a thousand times better than wasting time removing every piece of plastic and steel. I love this!

If you have that contraption sitting up on a tin trash can with no actual solid base.. then you sir are my hero

I made a double barrel wood stove at a machine shop years ago. I did the waste oil injection too. Thing sounded like a jet. Turned it blaze orange. Now you’ve inspired me to build one big enough to melt car engine blocks! Thanks! I love the smell of scrap in the morning...

Parts of your setup are amazing and clever. Other parts are incredibly ghetto. I'm okay with both paradigms. Thanks for sharing.

You remind me of my cuz. He lives out that way too. Thank you for the information. Enjoy learning from you.

I really enjoyed this video. It motivates me to do the same in mexico. I have access to a lot of scrap and this melting is awesome. Make more videos like this please

Neat idea. Throw it all in and let the aluminum drip out the bottom.

great idea and no slag to deal with. never thought of that

Found your channel and subscribed. Made a homemade scrapping furnace myself. Its a bit of a different setup but basic. Always nice to see others take on designs.

Great video, love watching you melt down scrap. Great idea with the used oil siphon forced air burner🔥🔥

I suspect a reburn on the fumes would make a heck of a difference.

That's a neat way to melt motors. Looks just like a lead melting pot the way it drips, speaking you could make a valve for the bottom. May make it easier to fill.

Panting well there fella😉.
Good shout with the chicken wire reinforced refractory 👍

another thing you could do is make the table bigger, find a barrel about 2 inches bigger diameter, and place it around your melt chamber, then fill the space between the 2 with dirt. easy to get, free, and will insulate.

I find that letting molten aluminum fall into a pail of water results in small nuggets of aluminum that are easy to handle, easily put into a crucible for remelting, and are often very clean with little or no dross. One suggestion would be to use a 5 gallon metal pail preferably on a turntable. Turning slowly the ingots would never glob up and would result in a very friendly raw aluminum product for either future recasting or future Ingot making. I have done this on several occasions and is my new go-to way of doing things. Give it a shot. I don't think you'll regret it.

Creative work and your right without melting it’s to difficult to separate the aluminum from the rotors and engine blocks.

i have a setup thats a lot like that, but i use a steel drum laying on its side with 2 - 1/2" holes drilled at the bottom rim and the drum canted at about a 15 degree angle, that allows the molten aluminum to flow out and the heavier steel will get caught by the ribs in the barrel, makes it really easy to clean out and you can fit things like rear lawn mower axels in it too, also, i made a door to contain more of the heat

Great video! One of these days, I hope to make a burner like that as well. Right now, I'm going to get a 20-ton press...I got an idea for pulling copper from motors! Yes, I am from Central Illinois and I did just over 108 tons last year. Shooting for 150 tons this year! Hope to do the unboxing video for the press today or tomorrow!
