I’ve always wondered, but couldn’t tony stark just make a big enough ark reactor for them and essentially post them near earth where he can do bi monthly maintenance or something, essentially gain a planetary guardian or at least an ally of earth. Solve so many issues with this alone. Tony might lose the ark reactor tech do to some villain but ultimately would have gained one less massive problem and he could handle any tech villain with help from the avengers. Ultimately a grand sacrifice but one that ultimately make sense.
