You gotta be new to the wrestling scene if you aren't familiar with Kenta Kobashi or his Burning Hammer. Possibly the most devastating move ever created. The move has been done only 7 times, with all instances shown in this video, including the Wrist-Clutch variation. Enjoy the brutality!

Possibly the most protected move in the history of Japanese professional wrestling. Kobashi only used it in his BIGGEST of big matches, and when he hit it, it was curtains.

The best part of these clips to be is the way the crowd reacts when they realize Kobashi is going for it. Absolutely electric!

The greatest announcer calls ever:
"The Giants win the pennant!"
"Down goes Frazier!"
"Do you believe in miracles? YES!"
"Go crazy folks, go crazy!"

Damn. This move is so dangerous, you can see how he made it a bit safer overtime

3 out of the 5 times he used the original variation were on misawa because no one was ballsy enough to take the original variation. The wrist clutch version looks a lot safer.

I love the second last one. The commentator doing the long

I do like how he changed up to doing the wrist-clutch version of the move as not only did it look better as a move it was actually also a lot safer for guys to take as they were no longer just being dumped on the top of their heads. Genius way to innovate a move really, making it look more devastating while actually making the move safer.

One of the best moves of all time. Wolf from Virtua Fighter uses it as well and even yells, "Burning Hammer!"

Kobashi doing this move only 7 times and it always ending the match shows just how awesome and devastating this moves was. Until the indie guys started using it then everybody and their grandma kicked out of it.

He barely uses this move. And its never been kicked out of. Legendary

Fun fact: Kobashi actually adapted the Burning Hammer from Joshi great Kyoko Inoue, who used a similar maneuver named the "Victoria Driver". The only difference is the lethal nature of Kobashi's notorious big match finisher, as demonstrated by the small number of times (through two iterations) he used it.

Quite fitting that the last ever Burning Hammer was against his protégé KENTA

I love the King's Roads concept of Finisher, Super Finisher, and Ultimate Finisher.

To go 10 years without using it says a lot about the prestige of the move

The Burning Hammer should be reserved to writing someone off TV for an injury angle, the most devastating looking move I've seen.

Hell yeah let's go! One of, if not the most unforgiving move ever

I get the sense that the Wrist-Clutch was added because at that point his body was starting to give out and he wasn't fully confident he could safely deliver the move the normal way anymore. Which if that is the case, I give Kobashi full credit for doing so. Say what you will he took care of his opponents.
