Sleeping Chick Gulping Water! Oopsie!

This is the first day these 2-day old chicks were put in a brooder, and one of our chicks decided to fall asleep right next to the (very shallow) water dish. Luckily I was filming them when this happened and so could intercede, and Sleepy Chick is just fine. In fact, it was her sister Smart Chick who pecked her to get her away from the water!

**Note that the water dish was purposefully very shallow to make sure chicks could not submerge themselves in water or get into trouble. I had to use a very shallow and small jam jar lid as a water dish because sick chick is not very mobile and this was the best arrangement to make sure she could stay hydrated. These are very small serama bantam chicks.**

Our two broody pet hens hatched out these chicks, one of whom (Smart Chick) has a bad leg and has been put in the brooder so she can hopefully get better. Sleepy Chick is doing a great job keeping her sick sister company inthe brooder.

Aww well he got a drink anyway! The other chicks like- whoo hoo my friend here is loco! My 3 all just ran in the run where i was waiting with treats, then ran back out into heavy rain! They hate being ' trapped '
