Today TT-Artisan announced their brand new, all mechanical instant film camera. This will be their first analog photography product launch and will hopefully begin a new line of film photography products. TT Artisans new camera will use the instax mini format and will provide wonderful instant photos.

They use this name (203T) to pay tribute to the Seagull 203 camera that was made in the 1960s.

I have two 120 folding cameras with an almost identical design. The copal shutter is reliable and trusted, and the lenses are sharp. If TTArt does it right, it will be a joy to use.

This is so cool. I don't think people should complain about it not being 120. People are going to be way more willing to shoot instax than 120. It's niche enough already even with instax lol.

I'm just relieved it is in the mini format. If it was instax wide, I would be sorely tempted and the *last* thing I need is another bloody camera! 🤣

It would be FANTASTIC if TTArtisan marketed a folding 120 roll film camera like this. Even if it lacked a light meter. The high demand for good quality used medium format film cameras has driven prices through the roof, while the aging population of these cameras has made it hard to get them serviced. In the meantime I would buy one of these instant film cameras if the lens sharpness fixes he chronic problem that all the existing ones have - blurry pictures.

A brilliant strategic move by TTArtisan. A 120 version would be the next logical step. After that it all comes down to the price as they would have to compete with the available vintage 120 folders.

While TT-Artisan's designs look hugely derivative of historical designs out of patent, they also look like beautiful quality gear at unbeatable prices. I like the idea of the Instax, but when the main camera design looks like it's made to appeal to Japanese teenage girls, it's not exactly my style, and how something looks and feels is a big part of what inspires you to be creative. When you then add the manual controls that allow you to make more creative choices, this camera has the potential to be a future classic.

Same here. Looks pretty much like my Zeiss Ikon Ikonta 120 film camera that I was shooting today, right down to the lens and lens setting. Pretty cool.

Looks like the Seagull 203 was the inspiration for this build. I’m happy to see a new fun inventive camera in 2025 . For those who want a cheap 120 folder that’s over looked check out the seagull 203. Just get the later version with metal film winder . I’ll def be picking up this new camera because it will be fun to use .

This would be a great camera to use to teach photography. Manual folders are awesome for fully manual shooting and for understanding how photography actually works. A fully manual folder with instant results....very clever idea! I love and shoot folders regularly. 2nd to my field cameras, they are so refreshing to use when you want total control and they produce excellent photos.

If they don’t screw up something, it’s gonna be an instant hit and legend. Great thinking.

Wow! TTArtisan just out-retro'd Fuji, Nikon, and OM Systems in on fell swoop. They would be wise to either bundle this with a Seikonic-lookalike cheapie light meter, or put out their own smartphone app (or recommend one of the existing ones). Instant film is too pricey to have a lot of exposure "oops"!

Promo photo at 1:14 is slightly odd - looks like she's composing on a rear LCD. Need to look through the viewfinder...!

This looks great -- reminds me a lot of the Zeiss Super Ikonta IV 120 film camera. I agree with everyone who thinks they should bring out a 120 film version soon!

The folding camera was a marvelous piece of evolutionary design but it isn't that useful unless the format is larger than full frame. Smaller formats are less compact than alternative constructions. I was concerned when TT Artisan said the lens was soft focus. Slightly soft can be useful in portraits but a few of us use cameras for subjects other than self, pet or friends. I guess you need to try the lens and see if it works well enough for your subjects. The Seagull has risen and will fly again. (Could have called it the Phoenix).

A Cook triplet is the simplest lens which is fully corrected and capable of delivering sharp images. Corner-to-corner sharpness should only be possible at smaller lens openings and the corners especially will soften up as you go to larger apertures.

‘The Thinking Artisan’ is such a fun name haha

P.S. Absolutely fabulous in neon green btw

The Cooke triplet is a simple 3 element design and if it is made well enough it gives sharp but vintage style results. The camera itself looks very like a Zeiss folder. I have a Zeiss folder and with a Tessar lens it gives stunning pictures that young ladies love. If this is is done correctly it could be a brilliant new camera on the market. The question is how much is it? Regards Jake.
