Back in the 80’s, I can remember going into a greasy spoon on a regular basis (A slang term from a British Cafè) and it would be full to the brim of builders, old war veterans, parents and kids and just regular locals going for a English Breakfast.

Picture the scene…..

It’s full with people, the whole place would be a fog of cigarette smoke, people reading the news paper, there would be a lot of laughter, swearing, a load of characters in there.

The cups of tea more often than not would be served is a really bad white cup (normally had chips and cracks in it lol).

Regular people just trying to get by in life and socialising!

The British Cafè was like the morning version of the pub before work lol

Great great memories, I miss the old days.

An important component of making tea, is to infuse the teabag in ‘Boiling Water’ - literally, once the kettle has boiled, to bring out the full flavour of the tea. This didn’t happen. It’s unknown how long the kettle had been sitting on your counter top before you started filming your video vlog, which then had a 3:35 introduction before you picked up the kettle to pour it. The water had gone off the boil by then. If you put sugar in your coffee, try the same amount in your tea. Once you determine how much sugar you need in your tea, put the sugar in the cup/mug at the same time as the teabag, so it starts to dissolve and sweeten the water when you first pour it in. Brewing time, 2 minutes is probably long enough for most people, up to 4 minutes if you want a stronger brew. Fill the cup/mug up to maybe, an inch from the top with the boiling water, to allow space for you to add plenty of milk, if you want to (as I do ). Pouring in the milk, cools the tea and adjusts its taste, don’t ladle it in, you will notice the tea changes colour from being dark to an increasingly lighter brown shade, dependent on how much milk you add. Once you have made a few cups of tea you will recognise the colour shade you like to drink and will stop adding milk automatically, when you see the shade develop. I like plenty of milk in my tea, so the ‘shade’ I drink is a similar colour to the Hobnobs. Obviously, the converse is: less milk, results in darker hotter tea, if you prefer it that way. In the Supermarket where you shop for groceries, does it have a ‘World Foods’ isle, if so it may sell the English Teas that have been recommended and British biscuits. Just to put things into perspective in regard of the prices you have been paying. The size of Hobnobs that you bought, presently cost $1.37 a packet in my U.K. Supermarket, they are at a reduced price at the moment and are normally the equivalent of $2.06 - perhaps your husband might like the Chocolate Hobnobs a little better, I know you would. 😷😀😷

Ginger snaps are actually pretty good in a cup of tea

I have my tea black, strong, no milk, no sugar....you could probably varnish woodwork with the type of tea I like! 🤣

About half an inch of milk is needed, but the water needs to have just boiled and only wait 2 minutes. Add sugar if required.

I like my tea like maidens water ( very milky and weak). Greetings from Manchester UK

The most popular black teas to buy here are Yorkshire tea, tetley or pg tips

That water was not boiling, it sat on your table for 3 mins maybe more. There is a ton of different types of tea and biscuits, find a combination you like. Decide how much sugar you prefer and put that in with the teabag. Pour boiling water directly onto the teabag (it will expand and infuse) leave it for at least 2/3 mins maybe 4 or even 5. Then slowly add milk until you get a rich golden brown colour. Love from the UK. oh and rum in a cup of tea? Never heard of that in my life.

I watch a lot of these Americans make British tea for the first time videos and it always fascinates me that you guys are astonished by kettles and dont know how to use them, as they are such a basic kitchen item if you need to boil water I am fascinated by how you would do it.

You did it incorrectly as the water had gone off the boil and would affect the flavour of the tea. I always pour the water as soon as tbe kettle switches itself off.

We tend to just pour in the milk without measuring it from a milk jug., until we get the strength we like.

There are hundreds of different varieties of tea which you consume in different ways. Also there are hundreds of varieties of biscuits, so you have a good chance you will eventually find a flavour to suit your tastes in both tea and biscuits.

The British put sugar in tea by the teaspoon not tablespoons.

In the UK those biscuits would generally cost £1.50 to £2.00

Would suggest you boil the water and immediately pour on tea bag, put sugar in, stir and add milk. I put lots more milk in, don't squeeze the tea bag as can make it bitter. I don't like biscuits dunked in tea, never have. It's nice on a hot day, seems to cool you down. Enjoy.

I prefer black unsweetened tea and 10 seconds releases all the caffeine without it getting bitter.
I do drink steeped tea sometimes but that does require milk.

Unless you like your tea strong, I would put more milk in it. About an 8th of a mug - but after the hot water and tea bag and not before.

You can also add a little whiskey and it’ll be an ‘Irish tea’

"Henry Morgan" pictured as 'Captain' (not 'Mister') Morgan on your Rum bottle, was indeed a pirate (at one point in his life anyway.) He was a Weslhman (so NOT English) who was born in 1635. As a 'privateer', he was based in Port Royal in Jamaica where he raided settlements on the Spanish Main as well as attacking ships. His profits from this part of his career were sufficient for him to 'go straight' and buy THREE large sugar plantations on Jamaica, where he was later appointed as Lieutenant Governor.
He died in 1688 at which time an amnesty was declared in Jamaica so that pirates and privateers could attend his funeral.

You need a tea cup and saucer. The water needs to be just of the boil. Use PG Tips or Yorkshire Tea.

Next time try chocolate digestives instead of HobNobs. Also, 1 teaspoon of suget with two teaspoons of milk, maybe three. Also, don't use Breakfast tea, it's not everyone's choice. Maybe try Yorkshire tea instead.

The tea you bought was an American version they just use the twinings name, bit like the Cadbury chocolate bar American have their own version but just use the name for selling. But hope it was close to British tea😀

Not being rood or anything I know it’s your first time making a cup of tea but you don’t have to measure how much milk you put in I put way more than half a tea spoon of milk in my tea and too teaspoons of sugar. I just depends how you would like it to taste but just letting you know you can pour the milk out of the carton. 😁
