Denis was a Spitfire fighter pilot serving in Italy 1944/45. He was with SAAF No. 4 squadron but was made POW a few weeks before the end of the war. I did this interview at his home in 2012. Thanks Denis for this interview :)

Here his tribute web site:

My late father served as a spitfire mechanic with No. 2 Sqdrn. S. A. Air force, he had some stories. They were all a different breed of men, worthy of much more than we could ever repay.

My grandfather Keith Muir spent the war as aircraft mechanic for South Africa, North Africa and Italy, . He past away 23 years ago, would have love to ask him his memories. My Mom always said he never talked much, other than to say how they would wait to know the fate of pilots. My Dads Dad fort from the start of war to 1944 with the1st Transvaal Scottish, injured in a fire, he survived and died of a stroke in the mid fifties.Very proud of there service and love to hear stories, many thanks!

Without exception all the blokes in this series of interviews give their stories in a down to earth, matter of fact sort of way, without exaggeration or bravado and more often than not playing down whatever it was they did. How very unlike they are of our "heroes" today!
