This beautiful red and yellow stripped insect is a flea beetle. After having seen how fast this insect could jump away, I realized why they are called flea beetles. This one is from the genus Omophoita which is part of the tribe of Alticini which is part of flea beetle sub-family Galerucinaethe which is part of the leaf beetle family Chrysomelidae. These are tiny, perhaps a quarter inch long. Like all leaf beetles, these feed on plants with some being harmful, feeding on crops, while others are beneficial, feeding on weeds.
