The Grinch simply hates commercialism, which is very relatable. Dr. Seuss’s hatred on commercialism during the holidays is why he wrote How the Grinch Stole Christmas. And another thing, Charlie Brown doesn’t hate Christmas, but he also thought the holidays feel too commercial.

The grinch wasn’t evil, the who’s were. The grinch was an outcast his whole life all of the who’s made fun of him and pushed him out of whoville. He was pushed out at a very young age so he wasn’t aware of the survival techniques, he also wanted to make the who’s feel what he felt by stealing Christmas. The grinch was also most likely autistic (which explains why he can’t handle the noises and has a short temper) the who’s made the grinch’s life a living hell and practically tortured him with all the noises. As someone who is autistic I 100% support the grinch.

Actually, in Horton Hears a Who they only have to make noise because the flower they loved on was going to be destroyed.
At the end they are able to prove their existence and don’t need to worry about making noise to stay alive.

Not to mention The Grinch lives in a different Whoville than the one seen in Horton Hears a Who. Horton’s Whoville is on a speck of dust and The Grinch’s Whoville is on a snowflake.

I have never heard of this theory before, but I really like it for multiple reasons: 1) It shows a plausible timeline connection between Horton Hears a Who & the Grinch that makes a lot of sense; 2) the Who's doing everything loudly does line up with the theory nicely, & 3) the ending of the original Grinch story has resulted in lots of spin off stories that make the Grinch at the beginning of the story more relatable and the way that this theory captures the Grinch's intended nature is refreshing. Awesome theory and insight!

Problem: The Grinch and Horton take place in different versions of Whoville. In the Grinch version Whoville is on a snowflake or an undisclosed mountain region. In Horton they live on a spec of dust with a pretty much fully colonized radius. Because of this the Grinch isn't actually endangering the Whos. All of Seuss's stories are separate from each other it's just mainstream media making you think that everything has to be a connected universe.

The Grinch hated how the people of Whoville celebrated the holiday of Christmas, how he was never included until Cindy Lou Who, who got him accepted and helped him feel the Christmas spirit. He wasn't trying to kill the Whoville people, just tried to keep his own sanity, which I can understand and support.
