Here is the Reason Why the F-35 has Only One Engine. The F-35 has only one engine because it was designed to be a multirole fighter jet that could perform a variety of missions, including air superiority, ground attack, and electronic warfare. Having two engines would have made the F-35 more expensive and complex, and it would have also reduced its stealth capabilities. The F-35's single engine is a Pratt & Whitney F135, which is the most powerful engine ever produced for a fighter jet. The F135 has a thrust of 28,000 pounds, which is enough to power the F-35 to speeds of Mach 2.2 and give it a range of over 1,200 nautical miles. The F-35's single engine has been criticized by some, who argue that it makes the aircraft more vulnerable to enemy fire. However, the F-35's designers believe that the aircraft's stealth capabilities and advanced avionics will make it difficult for enemy aircraft to even detect, let alone shoot down.

Mach 2.2 is the F22 Raptors top speed. F35 top speed is Mach 1.6...and the thrust of the F135 engine is over 40, 000 lbs

2 engine will reduce its stealth capabilities. F-22 "Am I a joke to you?"

F-35 has one engine because no successful STOVL fighter has ever had two.

The F35 has one engine because it doesn’t have two engines.

Hold on… you’re saying that having two engines decreases stealth capabilities? *Confused F-22*

One reason fighter jets had two engines in the past where to mitigate the risk of one stalling. Fighter engines are more reliable now.😊

The F-35 Engine has 45, 000 lbs of thrust

Each F-22 engine has 35, 000 pounds of thrust

basically, before any chinese pilot realizes an F35 is there, he’s on his way to a nice little swim in the warm waters of the pacific ocean.

The primary objective of the CALF/JAST/JSF programs was to produce a single engine STOVL aircraft.

Regardless one engine, three engines, half engine, it's a sweet baby of engineering. ❤️👍🏻

Why have two fuel drinkers in the back when you can have one?

The f35 was never designed for air superiority. And it only got one engine because it was designed never did have a top speed close to the F 22. It’s basically a budget stealth fighter to one day replace the F-16.

… its because the F-35 was designed as a light fighter aircraft like the F-16. Not a heavy like the F-22, F-15, or a medium aircraft like the F-18

if the F35 'needed' 2 engines, the F35 would have 2 engines!!

The F-35 is basically the 5th gen stealthy F-16.

I thought it only has 1 engine because it looks cool

The trust of that engin is 28 thousands kilos, which is almost 60 thousand pounds.

In don’t know much about jets but is it possible to add one of the starship jet engines to a fighter jet? And if yes are the raptor engines even stronger than the one used in the F35?

1 engine because its a multirole fighter jet? That doesn't make sense.

1 engine is stealthier? In sound and heat signature maybe. Having 2 intakes with one engine still makes the intakes a radar issue.

It's for the money you people, it costs less, that is the main issue there.

The F-18 is a twin engine multirole fighter and a good at that one.
