The United States returned four of its military bases in South Korea after yearslong delay, with South Korea’s temporary decision to pay for decontamination costs. The South Korean government had requested the return of US bases amid rising health concerns of residents and plans to consolidate two US bases in the garrisons of Pyeongtaek and Daegu against North Korea’s growing nuclear threat. So you’re saying that Korea doesn’t contaminate its soil? You must not have been stationed there

Not surprised at the U.S. military denying whether they knew or not about how contaminated the bases were. The U.S. military has always been slow to respond to any potential health concerns to their troops or allies.

The strongest impression definitely leaves 2:06 Camp Market in Bupyeong district in Incheon. Hyper urban area and a huge, sinister-looking gap in the middle. The thumbnail shows it even better. So much potential, but it'll probably be limited even after the decon.
The easiest thing is to refuse to clean up the mess left behind. USFK officials need to have more social responsibility. Those substances are no joke!

I think that Camp Market in Bupyeong was where ASCOM Depot was located.

I served there from 1969-1970.

As an American citizen, I hope we help with the cost to clean up these sites. What are the future plans for these sites?

I believe we should close all overseas bases. Then that money be invested back home; especially now with this pandemia that is depleting our national funds. Let those countries defend themselves. We have enough strength to take care of ourselves; and no one will mess with us.

There are South Koreans who only know a part of the situation and moan about imperialism, but they are trying to discipline politicians who exploit this ignorance

Ugh. I hope the US does the right thing and helps with the decon costs. Thank you for the update.

You can start by thanking the US for your freedom. You can then discuss how the storm water run off was called "shits creek" for decades because people would just shit in and around it. Then you can discuss how S. Korea should be greatly thanking the US for the BILLIONS it has pumped in to their economy.

Of course US should help with cleanup both financially and logistically. Trump has the mentality of not paying for US mistakes just as he did in his business career with all his bankruptcies.

What an ugly blight. The U.S. military today has no class if most of its bases in S Korea look like this. My parents were in the U.S. Air Force, and the bases we lived on were real nice because of high standards. Including infrastructure and landscaping. What I'm looking at in this video looks totally ghetto. It's shameful, where's the pride?
