Another song that managed to be big thanks to a movie is Hooked On A Feeling by Blue Swede. I know that some would say that this song appeared in Reservoir Dogs, but Hooked On A Feeling became popular thanks to a film called Guardians of the Galaxy.

Your thumbnail says it all. Not that many people were aware of Dolly Parton’s beautiful, I will always Love You, until Whitney Huston’s epic cover in The Bodyguard❤️RIP

A similar list should be made for instrumentals, like "Chariots of Fire" and "Tubular Bells." I mean, if it weren't for The Exorcist, my dad would've never discovered Mike Oldfield, who became one of his and one of my favorite musicians.

The Bodyguard is a defining example of soundtracks that are more popular than the movie. I've never even seen it and when I searched on YouTube for a review, there's only like two of them!

All good songs, but I think you should have mentioned:
Stand By Me from Stand By Me
& Lean On Me from Lean On Me
They were both older, popular, previously released songs that became very popular again after the movies released.

I've listened to Bohemian Rhapsody over ten thousand times. Never once have I watched Wayne's World though.

I Liked She’s Like the Wind by Patrick Swayze. From Dirty Dancing as well. He was an excellent songwriter. I also liked Melt with You by Bad English from Valley Girl, Wham Rap by Wham from Sixteen Candles, Must Have Been Love by Roxette from Pretty Woman, Neutron Dance by The Pointer Sisters, from Beverly Hills Cop, and Diana Ross Do You Know Where Your’re Going Too from Mahogany.
