Why are they scheduling matches like this? Last tournament it was nishikori in one day who ended up losing, now Monfils. Both of them could have easily won if the matches were on different days.

I've seen Monfils live several times. He is a fantastic player but in his earlier days was accused of sacrificing victory for showmanship. It certainly seems like he should've won a major along the way, or at least more 1000-level events. He is truly a magician out there, but is soon to turn 38 (Sept.1), and the showmanship will be diminishing. Still, he played great in Cincy, proving that he is still in shape and can be competitive at a high level.

Every time Rune wins a match, you can read comments that want to minimize his victory (Berrettini gave him the match, Monfils was burned and Rune did nothing ect.). They won't say he was great at the net today. You are just haters, and drinking your tears is a sweet pleasure.
Congratulations to Monfils for a superb day! As a Frenchman, I'm proud to see him play at this level at 37 years old.

Yes one can speculate that Monfils would've a better shot at winning if he got more rest... but at the same time if there wasn't a rain delay in the previous match, he would be more tired in the 3rd making it much harder to win that match

The same rain delay that gave him extra rest also cost him the next match, he looked exhausted by the end there, but what a run by the old guy! 👏
