That was a really comprehensive, meaningful comparison, especially the backlight behavior and the sun stars, thanks for the effort!

I know I am contradicting myself compared to the comment I left one week ago in favor of the 14-28mm, but I end up buying the 16-35mm instead as I managed to find it at a pretty good deal. With that being said, I would like to thank you for all the amazing content that you have on the channel. I am a beginner photographer who recently got onto the Panasonic ecosystem and you have been such a help! At this point you are my go to channel for anything photography. Cheers! 🍻🍻

Edited: This review (including the sharpness test) was tested using a Lumix S5 and S5II. Sorry i forgot to add the camera info to the video
Any of you thinking of getting the Lumix S 14-28mm f/4-5.6? And how come my lens review is longer than 30 minutes!??

So much work for such a small focal length :D Thank you Richard for that great review!

Another great review. It looks like a great lens. I love the 16-35 and personally I like having 35mm more that 14mm. I really don't care for 24-28mm as a focal length. I have been waiting for the fast, wide S-Pro zoom, but I don't it will be happen in the near future (or at all). This is the main reason I have been shooting Canon with Panasonic. The Canon 15-35 is fast, sharp, has IS and creates beautiful sun stars. That said, I am glad Panasonic made this lens. I think they are really focusing the quality mid-range market. The S5II, 14-28 and 20-60 is pretty killer combination and should generate sales to keep the system strong in the future.

Thanks for this very comprehensive review! I'm looking for a lens that's wider than 20 mm, but I really find it very hard to choose one... but so far this one is my favorite.

Thank you very much for your review. The 14-28mm is super interesting, especially for the price. I would like to see a review of the 14-28mm with the Sigma C 16-28mm 2.8/f. I think both lenses are very similarly priced, and it would be great to see the sigma's autofocus with the new Lumix S5ii, lose that 2mm wide-angle, but gain brightness for videos and night photos.
Thank you very much for your time and dedication!

Great review.
The way I see it, one cannot legitimately say "Twice the product at half the price" very often. But this is one of those instances. I would not even take the 16-35mm lens at the SAME price as the 14-28... and since they are throwing in the 14-28 free with the camera at the moment... it's a complete no brainer. What a lens.

Definitely on my list for sharing between TL2 and FF -- either this or the 18mm f/1.8 (The Sigma 16-28mm f/2.8 would be the most logical, but I have the 18-50mm f/2.8 aps-c, so that overlap and the Lumixes being 100g lighter does make a difference on the sub-400g TL2)

Hi Richard, thanks for the review! Looks like a winner. One question: was the test performed on a 24 MP body, or on the S1R? As for "Am I thinking of buying a 14-28?" the answer is yes, I'd like one - particularly for hiking - but I already have several UW zooms so probably not just yet.

Thanks Richard, great review! Yes, I think I will purchase this lens. I had the Lumix G 7-14mm f/4 lens for micro four thirds and loved it, great quality lens and quite compact. This new S series lens looks to be just as good if not better.
