Abandoned T-6 Durant Oklahoma Walkaround

We stopped in Durant Ok for our fuel stop on the way bringing the Stearman back to Mid America Flight Museum in Mt Pleasant TX. I decided to check out this large old hangar to see what was inside. I'm glad I did, I ran across this old Harvard. Most of us know this as the North American AT-6 Texan. The Canadians and Brits called them the Harvard.

It’s not abandoned. The owner apparently put the engine back on it sans prop last I saw of it. That plane has been at DUA since I was a kid and I’m almost 40. Story I heard was allegedly the pilot flew inverted too long, didn’t have the correct oil pump for inverted flight, and the engine locked up. I have absolutely no idea if that’s true, just the story I heard on it.

by all looks, very straight and somewhat complete (minus fwf - lol), but you just don't know until you get the plates off and look. Could be clean or full of fuzz.

Gosh she looks beautiful, I only been in side one once on the ground but never in the air. I wish I could be one of these days. I know they use to be nice traning planes back in ww2 for the navy till the late 70's.

The Harvard is registered to some dude in Illinois.  I wonder if he knows where it is?  Last airworthiness was in 1983.

Am I the only one thinking that's the biggest hangar I've seen in a long time? Bet rent's cheap.

This is not an AT-6, it's a Harvard.
