Acrylic Vs. Low Iron Glass Vs. Regular Glass Aquarium

My favorite kind of aquarium is the low iron glass one. It can get quite costly, though, especially the bigger size tanks.
Crystal glass is usually somewhere between the low iron and regular glass.

This was great and informative. I don't prefer to pay for acrylic, but if ever it's offered to me free or trade, I may try it. I've also seen others buff the scratches out of acrylic with little fuss. Anyway, my favorite will always be glass, it's traditional for me.

Amazing review, man!! Thank this video now I know that it's low-iron glass what I want.
I think acrylic is amazing... but convenient only if the aquarium is small and easy to clean.
I like to do things fast so acrylic will not last unscratched for too long with me.

Excellent video. I was just looking for the right type of glass to buy. Low iron it is, then. I loved the idea of acrylic, then I remembered how easily my psp screen used to get scratched. Then it occurred to me that this problem would be doubled with the risk of substrate abbrading the interior surface, which you just confirmed. I'm fortunate to have a place to put the tank where it can't be easily struck of knocked over.

Thanks for making such a good video, it makes me much more confident that I was making the right choice for myself when I picked out my glass aquariums a few years ago when I got my last fish. I think low iron glass is what I will buy next time I want to get another fish tank for display purposes, I really like blue and I know I would probably scratch the acrylic ones within days and then I wouldn’t be able to see my fish at all, so even if the acrylic is more clear when it isn’t scratched the low iron glass is clearer than scratched acrylic or regular glass is, and even though the low iron glass is more expensive than regular glass I think it might be worth it for a bigger aquarium that has thicker glass because I would be able to see a significant enough difference, also I like the blue edges a lot, I think for smaller aquariums that I’m just using to grow fish food and algae and use for a filter and are not for anything I want to watch or display I will continue to buy the basic glass aquariums because I still need to see how the fish food and algae are growing through the sides of the tank so I still need to clean the side of the tank pretty often and I know I would badly scratch the acrylic ones also the basic glass small aquariums are less expensive overall than the other options because if they break I know how to fix them, I couldn’t fix acrylic tanks at all even if I knew how to do that because I might get acrylic dust on myself or get the dust on surfaces in the house while I was doing that and I am pretty badly allergic to anything that has acrylic particles in it interacting with my skin or body in any way.

Beautiful video and good info. I'd like to add that longevity is also different. In that department glass wins. Also if time is a factor glass is quicker to clean

Is there a tool to check or verify you have low iron glass? I just bought an aquarium and they said it was low Iron... It isn't clear when I look at it... it is bluish green. I watched another video and the guy showed starfire glass with a bluish tinted. So I don't know what is low iron.
