The Purpose of 16 Personalities

The Purpose of 16 Personalities can be discussed from two angles: one is about purpose in general and your purpose in particular, the second one is about the purpose of having 16 different personality types in our human society. And then, it's about merging those two perspectives for the optimal outcome and life satisfaction for everyone involved. Your personality type is not just an identity – it can be (y)our life mission.

My job is definitely a Te type of job- and as an ESFP, I find that I am “good” at it, but I don’t feel FULFILLED. That said, I find my purpose outside of work by doing things and exploring life. Definitely work to live rather than live to work. Unfortunately, we can’t always choose what we do, as other factors can prevent it. Like having a young family and needing to provide, etc etc.

I like what you said about feeling drained when you aren’t following your purpose role. I’m an ISFJ/SEI Fe subtype I believe, and I actually had an example of me feeling drained cause I was doing something I wasn’t meant to do. I was going for the CPA Exam after I graduated from college. The studying got very overwhelming for me because it was a lot of small factual information I had to remember for the test. It really drained my POLR Te function 😩 . I had one study session where I was so mentally and emotionally drained of energy 😩. Definitely learned from that that’s not my purpose role.

I admit I have created a lot of issues in heavily detail oriented jobs as it feels really difficult to me to even get a simple task done (simple to other types) and I take too long, then end up with less time to do other tasks. By then I am too drained, and deliver subpar work. V sad and painful to all involved!

Thank you so much for this. I'm an ILI-Te and work in Software Engineering. I enjoy building elegant and efficient systems but for a while I've been stuck with very laborious detail oriented work which I begrudgingly did for more than a year, only to face burnout after that. I realize it's because I was stuck in an extrovert loop (Te + Se), felt like I was losing myself and that's a very scary thing.

The consequences for putting yourself through things that don't align with you are serious. I'm left wondering whether I need to quit the industry altogether or maybe just look for less detail oriented work.

Hands down one of the best videos I have seen on MBTI on youtube. Would you consider elaborating a bit more in your future videos about "skills outside MBTI" part you mentioned here?
