Im surprised to see how many people can't understand how the tripod head is so much. They are horribly complex inside, with actual liquid fluid, seals, bearings, lots of moving parts. The counterbalance mechanism is also very complicated, they are made in relatively low quantities and take ages to assemble by hand. They have to be smooth and behave in just the right way for starts and stops of your motion to be smooth and controllable. They are not simple devices at all. Try looking at an Arrihead gearhead if you want to see expensive, or a remote head like the KFX Aurora or a Spacecam. 10k for a fluid head is absolutely par for the course

$2.2k for a matte box seems like a massive scam. Like what exactly would make a matte box worth that much

This might sound crazy but I built me a mini rig like 3yrs ago with the main camera being a $200 gimbal mini handheld it shoots 4k 30fps max and I have been able to get some good videos done doing color grading in post. I just try to make what I can afford work the best I can.

A friend of mine does that stuff as a hobby. every time he loads his equipment into my car, it's worth immediately goes up by a factor of 10.

The logistics of carrying this camera must be crazy too. Almost memorizing to look at.

The "hook" is the only one I can buy with confidence.

Recently at my film school which I was learning Cinematography, I had to learn about all those equipments. I even got to shoot hand held on shoulder with that kind of camera rig. It will be a bit tricky by adjusting the focus ring from the lens with the hand while using the rig, So follow focus unit is used to help a lot for adjusting the focus. It was a cool experience. The rigs are definitely heavy, but they look really cool.

2300 for a matte box is insane. Im sure it works well but its bent metal/ plastic that (at most) holds some ND filters. But the Venice has built in ND filters so its just blocking a minimal amount of light. If you erased the ARRI off the side they couldnt sell it for more than 1k

Someone might look at the follow focus and balk at spending thousands of dollars on what looks like a wheel with a couple gears... but these ARRI units are no joke. They are buttery smooth on day one and a decade or two later. Probably longer if cared for right.

Worked for a moving company and we transported camera sets costing half a million dollars, honestly I wonder why would they trust those equipment for us to handle 😅

Haha awesome. I actually work at the company who makes the matt boxes for Arri. Very likely that I assembled that exact one 😄

And most people couldn’t tell the difference between this and footage shot with a mirrorless camera.
