John Gibbons is a registered Osteopath, Lecturer and Author and is demonstrating how to assess (and then subsequently manipulate) the spinal motion of the cervical spine using Dr Lovett (1903) and the laws or principles of Fryette (1918), John also manipulates with a HVT / Grade 5 technique to the cervical spine level of C1/2 and C2/3. Some of these techniques can be taught but only to skilled therapists and manipulations plus more is taught on the Spinal course at the University of Oxford.

The Vital Cervical Spine Online Masterclass and is a comprehensive, must-have roadmap from firstly understanding all of the related functional anatomy, through to assessing and subsequently treating the region of the cervical spine. The course text is enriched with anatomical drawings throughout, with detailed explanations which accompany the lessons. The literature is complimented by the associated videos which further explain and expand upon topics such as neurological testing using the patella hammer, common neuropathies, pathologies, and differential diagnoses for pain arising to the cervical spine. It is an indispensable resource for physical therapists and bodyworkers.

Alongside real-life case studies and guidelines for hands-on work with clients and patients, The Vital Cervical Spine Online Masterclass demystifies and succinctly presents everything you need to know to be confident and competent in this area; from how to diagnose specific nerve conditions as a result of disc pathology to understanding how to differentiate motion from C1 & C2 (AA Joint) as compared to the rest of the cervical spine.

The Vital Cervical Spine Masterclass will enable you to:

- Assess the cervical spine nervous system using a patella (reflex) hammer, myotome (muscle) testing and dermatome (sensory) testing

- Determine whether pain in the shoulder, arm or hand is in fact a referral pattern originating from the cervical spine

- Utilise active and passive range of motion tests to determine if the pathology is a muscular or a joint issue

- Decide at what level a cervical disc may have herniated

- Know what to do with the findings of your neurological assessment and the circumstances under which to refer patients for more specialist care

I'm glad this is a real reaction to having extreme pain and being stuck and stuff. I hate all that laughing after and the chiropractor acting like they were in all this pain. I'm the same way as her.

This is a great video John. I think the reason why it’s so good is it shows the human element of applying some techniques and the concern not to have hurt the person in any way. I imagine so many medical professionals battle with this at times

Yes each time I go for chiropractic treatment, the chiropractor would crack my neck, there would be a loud crack but with enormous relief.

I used to see a chiropractor twice a year as a kid for mild scoliosis. It was uncomfortable at the time. But it always worked like a charm. I do miss it because my current insurance doesn’t accept it.

The potential for injury in these kinds of neck adjustments is significant. I went to a chiropractor ( grad of Palmer Chiropractic ) for a sore popping hip from yoga class. Was teaching full time, great health, age 49. Bed ridden 1 year after neck adjustment. Never fully recovered. Be aware : people with even mild scoliosis may have smaller than normal cervical foramina. ( Source : Scoliosis and Spinal Pain Syndrome, Dr. Valentyn Serdyuk, orthopedic surgeon / researcher Odessa University. ) So, there is danger of dissecting the vertebral artery. Also, people with undiagnosed Ehlers Danlos may not respond in predictable ways. Plus, the real problem may be with sacral / ilia stability - especially for women. DON’T do this neck high velocity, thrusting. I have never totally recovered - 22 years later.

Right. Don't let just any chiroprater do this to you. You'll survive but it can be painful later, so much that you'll never let someone adjust you again. Happened to me. Close to tears for 3 days. It was 10 years ago, still remember it.
