python is a programming language as you can literally build production-grade apps with it. you can handle both the backend and frontend easily with just one language. more importantly, python allows a data scientist suddenly become a web developer or vice versa.

Do people realize python is literally used on Youtube, popular web browsers (such as waterfox), commercial video games, literally the majority of the AI industry, data science, and so much more? If a scripting language can do all that then I'm curious what a REAL programming language can do

Here is a definition of scripting language I found on the Internet:

So although we think of Python as a scripting language, it is in fact also a programming language, just as a banana is both a banana and a fruit 🍌😉

I'm learning python right now in school. I come from C# and c++. And to me, a lot of basic OOP features that i have always taken for granted in these more complex languages just don't exist.

Python doesn't have any true Enumerator type, private, protected and public variables don't exist.
Global and local variables are very weird where you have to specify you are using a global.
And the indentation style actually makes the code harder to read sometimes (not always), because it can be difficult to see where a function or class ends at a glance.

Python can do some great things, and some things can be written in one line that would take 5-7 lines in c++. But the intense babysitting and general lack of basic OOP structures feels really unsatisfying to me.

Although I say this I acknowledge that I'm probably biased toward what I'm used to.

personally I think the best thing about python, and what is saving it for me, is the amount of libraries and ease of installation. No need to drag folders and specify libraries to the compiler, it does that for you, which makes working with libraries a lot easier at times

I don't care what people say. Python have very useful libraries. You can do amazing things with it. Make an app or a game or a bot if you want. Python will always stay in my top 3.

A 'programming language' is a language in which you can program. Python is not a compiled language but it is a programming language. HTML or CSS would be examples of languages which are not programming languages but description languages.

Imo, everyone who says 'X is not a programming language, it's a scripting language' hasn't yet understood that scripting is a form of programming

It is a scripting language but the versatility and easy syntax made it adaptable and made it grow much more.

I started a university degree in Programming a few months ago. We learn C and Python for now. I get excited when I get assignments in Python because it is such a great language to learn and use. C on the other hand I struggle to cope.
