AMD Ryzen 3 3100 vs Intel i3-9100F - Budget CPU Comparison

How does AMD’s new Ryzen 3 3100 CPU compare against Intel’s cheaper i3-9100F? I’ve benchmarked games at 1080p and 1440p resolutions to show you the gaming differences.

I’ve also tested a number of other applications including rendering and video editing software suites like Adobe Premiere and Photoshop, both at stock settings and while overclocked. We’ll also compare temperatures and power draw to help you decide which CPU is worth it for the money.

Because of lockdown, I'll not be able to attend intel's funeral this year.

Bro the 3100 is a beast when it comes to overclocking as it can reach upto 4.4 GHz all core, it significantly improves gaming performance in some frequency sensitive titles as shown by gamers nexus.

7:08 Pretty weird that the R3 loses to the i3 on Battlefield V, in Hardware Unboxed's review the R3 3100 was pretty much on par with the 9100F on average FPS but it was 41% faster on 1% lows.

9100f is still really good for the price considering youre spending 25 less for a budget cpu and nearly has same fps for gamss

I would be interested to see how they perform with stock cooler and the pre applied thermal paste. I don't think people in the market for a budget CPU will be water cooling it. The cooler costs more than the CPUs do.

Some games stutter on 4 threads.. That's only going to get worse over time..

For the Love of GOD DO NOT BUY THE I3. POS is nearly pegged at 100% in most games I play, I dare open something in the background, the whole PC STUTTERS. I wish you'd show CPU usage.

I didn't get your iGPU comment on Adobe PREMIER 2020 video export test. 9100F doesn't have an integrated graphics to begin with. If you want iGPU, you have to buy a standard 9100 which cost similar to Ryzen 3 3100X.
Anyway, thanks for the review. From gaming, looks like the games using older DirectX 11, having better performance with i3-9100F.
Now regarding the value for even gaming, couple of things to be considered. First, at this price point, you don't expect people to buy a Z series motherboard for 9100F and H series will limit the memory speed to 2666 MHz, resulting slightly decreased performance across the board. Secondly, the stock cooler which comes with Intel, are one of the worst and for better performance, at least an $20 aftermarket cooler is required, hence additional the cost. Ryzen 3 1300 still coming with a far better Wraith Spire cooler which is pretty solid if not overlooking. 9100F may look viable due to its $25 cheaper price. But when you consider these facts, it is not that cheaper any more.

Hey Jarrod. Another good video. One suggestion for your Witcher benchmark. If you're testing GPU, use a run through the landscape of the map. If you're testing CPU, run through a densely populated city. I went from an overclocked 6700k to a ryzen 1700 back in the day, and my frame rate increases significantly in the city portions of the game where threads are chewed up. Just a suggestion. Cheers mate.

Both processors are good! And offers good price to performance ratio.

If youre on a strict budget- the i3-9100f is definitely the choice.

But if you can stretch it to 100$ for a processor. The go for 3100.

The competition is so good and we consumers are the real winners!!

Please review the acer swift 3 with the ryzen 5 3500u. I'm planning to buy the ryzen 7 4700u version but I think it is not still released here in Philippines, so I'm wondering if I should wait for that or the ryzen 5 version is already okay. Btw I will use it for productivity and a bit of gaming on the side

I bought the I3 9100f it was only 75 dollars. The Ryzen 3100 is over twice the cost, I would hope it was WAY better than the 9110f.

The Ryzen 5 3600 is the same price, as the 3100 I'd go with that.

I have had a problem with laptops being too hot for my comfort in the wrist rest area. I have been looking at the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX531GXR with and rtx2080 and i7 9750H 6-Core. Mabye the shifted down keyboard would help?
