This was my first drum machine. I always loved playing the demo on this thing.

Holy crap, I've had a TR-707 at the center of my studio since 1988 and I never knew it had a built-in demo. Guess I should have read the manual.

The first time I heard a Roland TR-707 without even realizing it was on a load of CRS Records kid's cassetes
used with a Casio CZ-101, Roland MT-32 and some sort of Yamaha FM synth. A couple of CYP's composers
also used it like Dave Walls and Ken Bolam but when compressed and put through excessive reverb and equed
this drum machine doesn't sound quite as lofi but only once you recognize it you can't unhear it. I used to think
the 707 sounded like Casiotone or Yamaha Porta Sound keyboard drums or sounded like the rhythm section on a
Yamaha electone or i could have believed I was hearing an 80s Roland Atelier except Roland made their first Atelier
organ in 1994 when lofi was falling out of favor in professional music production. Another strange thing is that
in 2003 I came to the conclusion that stuff like this was outdated and that nobndy used stuff like this in the 21st
century because I had heard everyone around me saying that yet over the last decade there has since been a resurgence
in all types of vintage gear and even artists like Bruno Mars making modern pop songs that sound like they were
made in the 80s. But even though a real TR-707 is unattainable for many people including myself as there are so many
free and commercial VST instruments and even 707 sample packs I felt like I had no excuse not to get back into producing
lofi music as these drums are far more superior than the drums in my old Casio and Yamaha keyboards which lead me
to recently buy a used TR-505. I don't think lofi music ever was bad but 20 years ago people who told you it was trash
were just snobs and I still think that's true today.

A good dozen years ago, I went into a flea market with only 10 euros in pocket, looking a little I find a TR-707 (which looked new, the alimentation was placed on it).
The price quoted was 10 euros !
At the time I owned a Yamaha RM1x, I told myself "she was not going to serve me" and I used my 10 euros to buy tobacco ... !
It was only a few years later that I came across the audiofanzine website and reviewed the 707 ... Imagine my frustration * Snif! * ^^
*** !! DO NOT SMOKE !! ***
