NOTES:
----------------------------------------------
Ian Craig, a YouTuber and subscriber, did a review of a lapel from a company I've never heard of, MicBooster, and did some tests of the Clippy EM172 lapel mic. It was impressive.

I am STiLL looking for the perfect lav mic (still haven't found it), but this lav mic beats the pants off my other lapel mics, including the $249 Rode lav.

You can only order this direct from their website, located in the United Kingdom, there will be a small shipping charge, and it took about 10 days to reach me from across the pond.

I would highly suggest this lapel if you need one and DON'T CARE about the size. It's larger than all of them, so using this to hide on talent is not an option, but, out of the three compared, I like how this one sounds the best, and don't care if it's seen for my videos.

The MicBooster Clippy is actually a really common mic in field recording, and is often used in pairs for stereo recording.

Thank's for the upload!
More factors to consider: The size- how easy is it to hide?
The durability- is it going to fail when I need it to work? (They all break eventually)
How much noise does it make with clothing and touching the cord etc.
The tone doesn't mean much it your mic breaks, or the clothing noise is wrecking the track.

I have been using Rode Lav and Smartlav+ more often than not (if I have to use a lav) It has been a good compromise so far.

I really liked #1. There's more sparkle to the sound of your voice and it's clear. The Rode is good too, but if you can get those results (#1) with something that costs less than a Rode, do it!

Great video. Can we all just agree that lavaliers suck? And most of the time, the biggest difference is in mic technique and pickup patterns, not frequency response of dynamic range. This video demonstrates that perfectly. I've used plenty of expensive lapels, but I've only bought cheap ones.

Nice to hear these 3 side by side. My cheap option was always the Giant Squid for about $50, but I did suffer with some RF on the Rode Newshooter. My more expensive option is the Countryman B3, it's tiny.

Thank you Kevin, loved the video, loved the MixPre3 and how you showed it on camera, nice organic real feel for the demo and have you kept the name till the very end. Unfortunately they are out of stock on the Clippy Micbooster but will get one once they are back in stock, really liked the sound.

The lack of noise makes the Micbooster instantly recogniseable Kevin. Not only that, but it has more ‘oomph’ in its sound. A bit more sparkly.

Thanks for the shoutout. I’m really chuffed and surprised that a guy like you even sees my videos.

Hello, unfortunately my English is not that good and that is probably why I am a bit confused:
Your first link in the video description contains the term "EM172". A ClippyEM172 is also offered in the shop, but your link refers to the ClippyEM272. Which one is the right one?

I was disappointed with the lapel mic I picked up. I think I am going to try the MicBooster. Thanks for the Comparisons!

2 years later do you would still recommend the micbooster mic from the UK?

Who had experiences with it, since then?

How long did it take for your EM272's to arrive from England? I can't wait to use them !

Nice review. Agreed with the conclusion on which sounds best (through YouTube and my iPhone speaker albeit). Unfortunately no Way to know (because of poor product documentation ) if my camera ( Hero2)has the needed onboard power feed through the mic cable or not, but for $40 I’ll risk it and just order and try.

Lapel mic #1 has Virtually no noise floor. How are you doing that? How is that possible?

Kevin, great demo and information.
I was wondering if you have ever evaluated the PowerDeWise lavalier mics? I have four of these mics and have been extremely impressed by their sensitivity and quality. I use them on my Lumix G85, my iPhone, and have just tested them with the Rode WirelessGo system.
These mics on Amazon are about $21.
I would be curious as to a professional's opinion and thoughts.
Thank you for you insights. Always appreciate them.
