My childhood home had one! My dad chopped off all the big branches one year leaving only the trunk, and it grew back to full glory only 6 months after.

I recall reading something along the lines of the wood being used to build dowry chests, too, and that it was a big significance in the name.

"this is empress paulownia"
Actually thats an uncanny AI generated picture. It gets freakier the more you zoom in on the limbs.

To clarify, after a tree has developed a strong root structure, a decade is likely viable.
it can be coppiced. Removing the leader at ground level, allowing the new growth in the base of the tree every year.
Then after about 10 years it may be relatively viable as timber.

Forgot to mention that it is an incredibly invasive plant that can destroy your houses foundation in a few short years

🤔
So... it was very popular to plant a Paulownia tree when you had a child because it was timber ready when they were ... getting married, and needed timber to build a house.
Next sentence: Paulownia trees can be timber ready in 10 years.
Hmm. That math doesn't work well in modern culture. 😅

Its also an invasive species in many areas. My company gets paid a lot of money to remove these trees.

Just don't plant it close to the house because when it flowers it's rather overpoweringly sweet and it brings all the nectar birds who are very noisy.
