Apple's Vision Pro is an AR/VR headset that blends virtual and augmented reality into a sophisticated head-worn computer. Introduced at WWDC23, this device uses an underlying xrOS operating system, marking Apple's foray into the domain of spatial computing.
The Vision Pro features a 3D interface that allows control via eyes, hands, and voice. Its unique Eyesight front display projects the wearer's eyes as captured by internal cameras to the surroundings, and a blurred mode indicates immersion in augmented reality. The device supports a variety of applications and functions, including AR FaceTime calls, a 3D camera for spatial imaging, and more than 100 playable games from Apple Arcade at launch.
The headset boasts two micro-OLED displays each with 4K resolution, ensuring sharp text and HDR support. Integrated dual-driver speakers render spatial audio that adjusts to the objects in your room. The Vision Pro is powered by Apple's silicon based on the Mac’s M2 chip and the new Apple R1 chip that processes input from sensors and cameras, eliminating lag.
Vision Pro also prioritizes privacy, keeping the direction of the user's gaze private and not sharing it with apps. Users are authenticated automatically when they put on the device thanks to the use of internal cameras.
The headset is designed for comfort, with a single piece laminated glass, a Digital Crown-like dial, and a 3D-knitted headband that can be fully customized for fit. An external battery pack offers up to two hours of use.
