My favorite part of the movie is after Bill the Butcher was buried and the decades flash by as the New York City skyline sprouts to its present site, …knowing what a small man he was and forgotten forever as his unattended grave becomes obscured by weeds and shrubs.

Unpopular opinion: this is Scorsese's best work. Its not as drawn out and complicated as The Departed or Goodfellas, but it nails the grittyness and the performances are phenomenal ESPECIALLY by Sir Daniel Day-Lewis.

I honestly think when an actor is that far into the “method” it becomes very difficult to keep working with them. I know it’s your craft, your love, your life’s work, but when you make everyone around you miserable, is it worth it? Probably not. No matter the praise and accolades, or even how it makes YOU feel.
