Rover P5b - Fitting Powerspark Electronic Ignition Kit

I couldn't find any videos about fitting electronic ignition to a Rover P5b, so I thought I'd make one myself to help others if they were thinking of doing the same. It wasn't as straight forward as I'd hoped as my car was fitted with an early Lucas 35D distributor. But in the end I found a workaround which worked.
BTW I say 'Accuspark' in the video but it was a 'Powerspark' kit.

Nervous moment you managed to get the fix done. Hopefully this will be a long-standing success. First turn of the key...😊

I installed the same electronic ignition in my P5B coupe 1973.The trouble I had the + wire from ignition to coil, was on the - side of the coil!!!so I connected the + wire to the + side of coil and of course it did not work! After a lot of fault finding I found that the wires on the coil was the worn way round, this would work with points but not with electronic ignition. But I had to buy another electronic ignition, and this one works fine.

Its a good fix but . Wen i try it on my p6 the engine wont fire take the nut and spacer off and it runs ok . But worried abot all the slack in base plate . It could ride up into the rotor arm . Not relly plug n play as they suggest

Enjoyed another of your lovely videos. Just wondered if a spot of loctite on that modified washer and nut would keep it from vibrating off? Thanks again for sharing. Regards Col.

Nice job. I’d advise re-check your timing with electronic ignition as sometimes it can slightly change and also if your car has a rev counter it may stop working as it will need to be converted to work with electronic ignition.

How has this gone over time? Trying to do the same conversion now, I'm worried the vacuum advance is going to cause the trigger ring and pick up to rub on each other

A neat little workaround!
If I can ask, what electronic distributor did you purchase initially?

Excellent job. Do you think this will work in a P6?

That screw is a nut by the way & that post does not need anything on it so your 'fix' issant a fix
