The small chip is the controller, the large chip is the flash array.

Most people don't realize how amazing it is that so much information can be kept on such a small card.

Sort of a miracle they work at all.

People take these things for granted. I remember when we could store 8k in about that space, but with parallel access it was 100x the size.

Always wondered what goes inside one of those. So much storage on something so tiny, micro SD cards are almost magical

What interests me even more is what happens, when those memory cards breakdown without any visible damage.

Then you think about it, its crazy that we gone from smacking rocks together to make to fire to now this .
I can't even imagine what humanity will be capable in the next 100 years .

Most peoples: It's a plastic card with golden contact pins;
Tech nerds: It's multi-layer micro PCB with flash RAM & controller chip.

I'm wondering if it still works. If yes you could cover it with epoxy resin.

I remember thinking a 100k floppy disk had a lot of storage space... 64 gig like mind blown

so amazing that the chips are not flip chips, but instead, wire bonded to the pcb

I got started in computers in the days of the IBM 360. Most bank mainframe computers had 64 KB of main memory or less.

I always check my micro SD cards like this before I use them to see if they're genuine

Too little magnification. If you zoomed in more, you could see the microscopic size of the Leyden's jars where data is stored
