For those of you who didn't grow up watching 90's PBS kids shows, the adaptation with the dog is from a show called "Wishbone".
In the show, Wishbone was a dog with a love for classic literature. Each episode would start with a scenario in Wishbone's life that would remind him a classic story. Wishbone would then narrate said story, as well as star as one of the main characters. The show would flip back and forth between the happenings in Wishbone's life and the happenings in the book, showing the parallels between both stories.
The show was meant to help kids develop a love for reading and to learn the life lessons that could be found in literature.
I loved watching Wishbone as a kid and I'd say it is the reason why I got into reading classics books when I was old enough to comprehend them.

Fun fact: My mom has a deep obsession with the Bride and Prejudice film that has lasted my entire life. Everyone in my house has seen it multiple times per month because she hasn't gotten tired of it. We probably know every line and it was the first adaption I had ever been exposed to before reading the novel. I highly doubt anyone else has seen this film more than my family.

I will ALWAYS stand by the 1995 BBC adaptation. It was just so beautiful in every aspect and true to the book, I loved it when I was 11 and I think I always will

Oh, definitely the 1995 version for me. I agree that the weird 'floating Darcy' scenes have not aged spectacularly, but the casting is just so right, and so much of the script is straight from the book. Also, the horses involved are all appropriate for the time period and the people who own them (it drives me crackers in a lot of modern stuff when inexplicably there everyone is riding Friesians and Andalusians in times/places where that just isn't logical at all).

Some thoughts: I was around during Lizzie Bennett Diaries and I can confirm the emersive experience was incredible. The characters would talk to each other on Twitter (there's a website that tracks all their interactions), Lydia has a channel too- where all "off screen" stuff relative to her happened... basically the fandom was searching the net for the next drop of hints. Like someone randomly searching Lydia's name would find her youtube and share it with the fandom. It was super organic. The week that Darcy showed up but like didn't show up (where we saw just his lower half) the fandom was losing it for a week. It was amazing and was never truly replicated despite people trying.

There's a P&P adaptation for every occasion: 2005 for when you want something pretty, Lizzy Bennet Diaries when you want something both silly and deeply moving (the way the handle Lydia's plot always makes me cry), and 1995 when you want pure Austen.

2005 P&P is such a comfort movie for me. The emotionally captivating music, the beautiful way it was filmed and the TENSION. So well done I don't even have the words. I've seen it a million times and it gets better every time. Definitely not a perfect movie, but it's a movie that makes you feel! That is so hard to find in movies. It's just amazing 👏🏻

There's a Brazilian adaptation of P&P, it's a soap opera called Orgulho e Paixão (Pride and Passion) and it's SOMETHING.
You'd think with all the extra time a whole soap opera gives you they'd go for a very slow burn but by episode 3 or something Elizabeth and Darcy were already going at it.
A nice thing about that one is that all the sisters get to live their own stories, i.e, one of them frequently dressing up as a man so she can pilot motorcycles, or the other being a victim of a plot of her husband's governess to separate them by making them believe their house is haunted by his dead wife's spirit.
Also, Lizzie's best friend is none other than Emma Woodhouse, the motorcycle sister is inspired by Marianne Dashwood from S&S and the haunted sister is of course Catherine Morland from Northanger Abbey.

Only Brazilians may know this but we had a telenovela on 2018 that had the goal to adapt MOST OF Jane Austen's books (Sense & Sensibility, Pride & Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Emma, Northanger Abbey and Lady Susan) AT ONCE, mixing the families in a way that all the book's protagonists were sisters. To make it more believable in a Brazilian setting, the story occurs in 1910s and it makes some adaptations to fit in this historical moment on Brazil. It's a crazy attempt and It is very competent (the cast of Elizabeth - "Elisabeta" in this version - and Darcy was chef's kiss).

If someone became curious, it's name is "Orgulho e Paixão" (Pride and Passion, in english) and has 162 episodes in the local version which was cut to 100 in the internacional market...

I loved Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, simply because I don't remember EVER seeing a zombie movie set in anything other than the modern era. It was fun to see how they adapted the thrope. We need more of that.

Honestly being able to watch the lizzie bennet diaries as it aired was such an amazing experience, especially because each character also had their own twitter accounts, separate channels and it really felt like this whole *life* that was occurring live through the screen. that and the 1995 versions always will be my favs

The good thing about Jane Austen is that you can love all her stories. And enjoy them in a new way when you get older because as the way you change to see the world so does your way in understanding her characters.

The re-watch is called "The Look Back Diaries" and it's full of all kinds of goodies that might be enjoyable if you missed the show when it aired for the first time.

LOVE how you put this> “the sisters were not as carefully cast as the ’95 version, and I could’ve cared less for Wickham.” Lydia and Mary were brutal in the 2005 one, but Jane and Lizzy rocked... But every sister in the 95 one was delightful in their own way.
