Only read IF you are serious about finding your career… ⤵️
First be reassured that you are not alone in having this fear. The truth of the matter is nobody knows what they want to do for the rest of their lives at the age of 17.
This is the exact time of your life where you will be introduced to new experiences and you WILL develop new interests.
Therefore, stop setting unrealistic expectations for the major you choose and just understand you will naturally want to do other things. ✅
There is no perfect answer to which major is right for you, but just know this…
Whichever major you choose, it is UP TO YOU to create opportunities for yourself so that you are never stuck on one path. 👏🏼
You do this by developing high value skills on the side that can be leveraged for other opportunities in the future.
How?
1. Learn how to learn. Your schooling is still the number one priority since you are most likely to go down that career path, but do it as efficiently as possible with a proper study system (i.e. understand which techniques you are using and why you are using them). 🧠
2. Find your high value skill(s) and consistently develop it each year you are in school. Allocating a few hours per week is more than manageable if you study more efficiently! ⏰
3. Secure internships for your major to identify your likes and dislikes with that position. Can you see yourself doing that job permanently?
4. Try to monetize your skill as a service to see if it actually provides value to clients / employers. Can you see yourself doing that job permanently?
At the very least, you will now have both a degree + additional high value skills that can be leveraged for even other opportunities upon graduation :)
