I think both eras are amazing, showing very different sides of one of the BEST rock bands ever with the two different singers. Everyone involved was the top of the pile at the time of that particular lineup. Talents that may never be seen again, , , but, , , the Van Halen bros were notorious Assholes to the other band members after a short while. They only liked family members and I’m sure that wasn’t easy behind closed doors either… If you’re selling your story because you’re “somebody”, then sell the whole story. In the end, it’s the music and talent NOT the people I want to remember!!!

Tge Dave abums are my favorites. As i get older, I realize Ed and Al are not the greatest when it comes to getting along with others. They both seem like pricks, to be honest.

Sammy is an incredible musician. I just liked the David years better. Sure I definitely liked songs from the Sammy era. But its pop major scale commercial style just leaves me flat. None of the former edge of the early days. I guess they were different people in a different place by then. But you won't be hearing hear about it later to sell Pepsi. Still im surprised the Alex would just leave those days out. Sammy is a big part of bands history.

We need to stop with the VH bros worship. The reality was yes they were amazing and created music that started a whole genre of rock n roll. However in reality they both were complete a***holes who treated the people closest to them like shit. They wasted so many years being bitter and holding grudges forcing their fans to take sides. The whole sound road the coattails of the Roth period of the band. It is the same thing with KISS. It was the Ace and Peter period that was the most memorable and creative.
