I was the bassist in a cover band some 15 years ago, the male vocalist was all over the place with different tunings for multiple songs because of his range. He'd go as far as 2 whole tones down. (I thought those songs sounded horrible in those tunings. They just weren't the same) I did not have a pedal that could drop and it was a pain tuning so much. I eventually learned of the Drop pedal, and bought one for fun. A few years later I was asked to join another cover band. At first we just tuned down a half step for everything because of the singers range. He was eventually replaced by a male and a female singer giving us a wider range of songs to pull from. The singers were ok with the half step down tuning, but I didn't like it. One night the female singer sat in with another cover band. They played the songs in their correct tunings. Our singer was so much more comfortable, since she'd sing along to the songs on her own, in their correct tuning then come to rehearsal and we were tuned differently. She and our male singer didn't really know how to adjust their vocals to fit different tunings. There was my chance. I suggested we just tune standard and use our Drop pedals (two of us had them, the lead guitarist had to purchase one). Now we're in our 2nd year of that, and it's been great for all of us. The songs we play don't drop more than a full step, so we don't have any issues. The three of us using the Drop pedals can feel/hear the latency, but the rest of the band can't and neither can the crowds. Highly recommended for cover band situations! I have one on my bass pedalboard and one on my guitar pedalboard. Great review!

Great review Mike! I hate transposing on the fly & wish I'd had this years ago! When you are playing the same song with different bands in different keys that can cause chaos but his little fella would help solve that. Keep up the good work

Ahhhh, very cool to hear this in action. Definitely worth it to have one in the pedal arsenal. 🎉

I'm glad I have this, once I get to 2 steps down I can just switch to using 5th string.

Thanks. Now I understand it now as well as what it's capable are and not and it's shortcomings. My band leader has one on his pedal board spread and plays lead six string. He initially had it on my bass station setup but I usually always play in drop D tuning on my four string bass for the songs we play and with his singing voice everything fits in the mix.

Very interesting...I've looked into this as one of the tunes I play regularly live with one of my bands requires me to take out another bass completely tuned a semitone down. I tried programming a patch into my HX Effects using the pitch algorithm, but it sounds pretty artificial to my ears. TBH, with your Kubicki and the semitone down setting I really couldn't hear a difference tonally between standard pitch. Impressed! 👍

Very useful, I want to play some Ghost and Arch Enemy stuff, and this will save me to buy extra basses just for that.

Hey!! Where do you have this in your chain? Also, have you had any success using the drop with a 5 string bass? My buddy keeps writing in F# standard and I keep having issues when I put my active 5 string into the pedal, even after lowering the volume and EQ

my guitars are tuned in D standard and drop C, can i use it to make my tuning go up to E standard? i dont want to tune my guitars to E standard and use that to drop my tuning..thank you

Do you think it would work for 1/2 and 1 step? There's some songs on Eb (which I'll use a E standard) and drop C (for what I have a drop D tuned bass). I already have multiple basses and getting more just for a few songs isn't on my mind, at least now.

Upto 4 semitones it does a decent job, but there is a tradeoff in the sense that with lower drop tunings one doesnt feel very natural while trying to play fast/shred....as the semi tones go lower you can enjoy tracking stuff with slow to mid there are iffs and buts to getting the best out of the digitech drop and that is For Eg - ive tried with an SG guitar....like i mentioned hoing from a standard E Or drop D tuning upto 4 semitones down sounded good (when in bridge pickup tried with combo or neck position, the sound gets fuzzy and not tried with a like it as much....then tried with a tele
...now my tele has a slightly high action and hence on any standard tuning sounded bright, twangy and also reflected on the drop when downtuned upto 4

Thats my experience with if you just want to have a makeshift bass you can go to the oct I love playing from time to time on my SG with resulting tone is most definitely NOT for modern metal but late 80s to mid 90s bass....think Chris from Nirvana to some of the songs featured on the earlier 90, s a fun jam but might not give you that professional tool effectivity

I have standard tuning and I need to play in D standard… as I understood it should not be a problem with this pedal.

How does it compare to the new HX One?

On my Warwick Streamer ProM unfortanelly the tracking is awful, even 1 semiton, when i play the E string it keeps "searching" the note. I solve this problem putting my Boss Bass Limiter before the digitech, and compressing very Hard, but, by doing That, the sound change so much compared to the standard tunning. At the moment i dont have other basses to test, but i think the Warwick sound is too strong for the drop

No it doesn’t solve the problem. The drop tuning is horrible and has latency issues the further down you go. When you’re half step down you barely can notice but I’m a punk bassist and I play fast and it has an annoying delay input. I bought it but gave it back a week after. The best is to have two different basses on your gig
