LK-99, a candidate for room temperature superconductivity

I figured being the physicist in my social group I was going to get asked about this. Hopefully this answers people's questions. Mostly I wanted to give people context.

From the name of LK-99, there was one teacher of Dr. Lee and Kim, Professor Choi Dongsik, who said that a proof process of the Meissner effect would be an obstacle of super conductor application in an interview with a local science journal around 30 years ago. And he predicted a current difficult and fierce situation from these verification process and remained testament not to publish it without solid evidence. In my guess, he already knew that it is not super conductor as we knew, but new super conductor (type III) which could be facilitate applied to real life.

I will say, the evidence so far from replication is looking promising. I don’t think we’ll see consumer implementation until at least 5-10 years after the fact

That second video looks very interesting. It does look like the Meissner effect. However, as you mentioned... Cold fusion looked real to Pons and Fleischman. We just have to wait and see. It's almost too good to be true... And the material itself too simple.

Losts of claims about the changes it can bring but the effects disappear above fairly small currents as per their own paper it seems. So let's wait a few days if it is confirmed and wait way longer for what it could really bring if real...

The LK-99 stuff you are talking about is essentially a ceramic. Even IF superconducting at high temperatures it would about as useless for practical applications as the cuprate material that "erupted" from the Swiss research labs back in 1987. Such materials CANNOT be fabricated into wires or other practical shapes with any ease - 30 years of materials research have been thrown into making that particular ceramic into something marketable. So far, the penetration of LN2 based superconducting tape into the market is about 1%, as it is just not worth the bother.

Besides the engineering issues, which eliminate 90% of the potential applications right away for this sort of RTS, with a few quirky examples, quantum computer devices have no working principle that depends on the superconducting state. That you see cryogenic baths for the experimental quantum computers these day has everything to do with reducing noise, and not using special gate functions. regards, DKB

it's made out of lead, copper and phosphorus. The production process only requires basic labware, reproduction should be easy and only take a matter of days to get it right.

Wish my discipline of history had as much scrutiny as more and more papers, books and studies seem to be based on absolute garbage.
