It's amazing how this guy can make something so complex look like something so simple.

What needs to be emphasized is understanding how the head is shaped and how everything else interacts with that shape. Like knowing the human head has more in common with a box than a sphere or ellipse

I've been using your method for ages and oh my goodness, when you talked about how your method trains your brain to learn the process on your own, my jaw dropped. I've legitimately gotten better at learning where objects are on the face and proportioning thanks to your method. Insane.

Hi chommang, I’m from Kazakhstan, I’m writing through a translator, I don’t know if you’ll see these comments, but your videos help me a lot in learning, I’d like to get a new video from about hair in more detail (if there’s a similar video, I apologize) so how hard it is for me to figure out how to draw wavy lines, especially when I draw girls, trying to figure it all out!!!!

I tried learning drawing faces through the Loomis method and gridlines, but it didn't work for me. So, I started watching how different artists draw and do it freehand. I began seeing huge improvements in my portrait drawings. You're one of those artists I've watched and learned from for 3 years.

I think the hardest thing Ive come across since learning to draw is trying to break this perfection habit I have. I think its a age thing as Im older now, but seeing how youre able to tackle a pose/ head without worrying about every line being perfectly placed is nice to see. Hope to achieve this skill level over time where I dont spend more time on the base foundation of a sketch than I do the overall piece.

I learned the Loomis method starting out and it was really nice to have it as a crutch.
But I always felt like my heads still looked odd.
At some point I just stopped using it and freehanding heads and that's when I got a lot of nice looking ones.
I think what happened was me using the Loomis method to construct the head, without really thinking or looking at the overall look of it; basically, draw by steps without thought-process.
Glad I did, because it made drawing a lot more fun!

I remember watching your old videos like this about drawing head with this method, i dont really like drawing and rarely does it but i get great grades on my college drawing course thanks to your tutorial videos! that circle for eyes guideline is really useful, and i think seeing the guideline as a sphere instead of a circle is the most important thing to keep in mind when using loomis method

Well, now i understand the Loomis method helps a lot to recreate the structure of the head, learn the proportions that sometimes in real life it doesn't follow, and know how to place each part, after a lot of practice, you can master without the guides.

I love that this video came along on my feed bc I’ve recently been studying the Loomis method and hoping to switch to using it after using the simple circle method for years
