New Star Wars Trilogy Coming from Simon Kinberg

Deadline is reporting that a new Star Wars trilogy is on the way from Star Wars Rebels writer Simon Kinberg. Here are my thoughts on the news.

A New Star Wars Trilogy? Okay. Three things:
1. I will believe it only when I see a Trailer for Episode X
2. Disney, make sure you have a plan for the entire Trilogy and don’t just make it up as you go along.
3. Fans, don’t whine and complain about everything in it just because it doesn’t go the way you want it to.

Update: The Hollywood Reporter says the trilogy will not be a continuation of the Skywalker saga, and instead will follow new characters and a new story

Kimberg is about as 60/40 of a filmmaker when it comes to writing, producing and directing as it gets. The guy has worked on some genuinely awesome stuff and then he’s also worked on some very middling stuff to almost bad. That Rebels credit gives me some hope and if he’s the one writing all three that’s also smart. I just hope that this is not the same thing we’ve been going through for years now where something gets announced and nothing happens.

I did not know that he's responsible for some of the best Rebels episodes. That bodes well at least. Still though I feel like they need to stop announcing movies so long before they even enter production. Just pours salt in the wound when another one gets axed.

I think there are 2 possibilities. 1 is that he’s stepping in as the on sight writer for Reys NJO and is now being referred to as a trilogy, or this is an animated trilogy due to his work on Rebels. I think there is definitely some miscommunication going on with this

Both Fantastic 4 and Dark Phoenix had heavy studio reshoots/rewrites. Moreso Fantastic 4 which probably wasn't the original vision at all.

Since reports have been updated to clarify it’s not Episodes X-XII, I really hope (if the films actually get made, which, y’know) it’s an Old Republic trilogy. Adapt some of the more popular aspects of the existing Legends Old Republic stuff, but largely make it a new story. This would follow the Mangold film pretty well.

If these films are set after IX (and presumably the Rey movie), all I ask is that you please, please keep the Sith defeated.

Please make it at the writing level of Andor. If you check that box, success will follow. That requires planning out the vision for the trilogy from the start.

Bring back Jar Jar as the mastermind Sith like George Lucas originally envisioned. I feel like that could win back a lot of fans.

I hope they go with a new story to tell. It could be told during the periods we know but with different characters, maybe on the other side of a conflict. I would love to see the galaxy itself expanded on with more worlds, factions, heroes and the like. There is so much potential for a new story no matter what time its set.

I can't wait for them to publicly announce this, hype it as being a planned out trilogy, and then for the movies to be quietly canceled and for us to never see them and have them added to another list of never happened.

A thing we need to all do is Take a Grain of Salt.
These movies are concepts now. No film or piece of media has even happened on any project. Cut projects always happen, it's just the nature of the beast that is the entertainment industry.

Im with it being Star Wars episodes 10-12 just not Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga 10-12. Let's treat it like Marvel. Same overall storyline moving forward but as the start of a new saga. Personally I want to see something that really gets into droids and the fact that they've been second class citizens (of they're citizens at all) for like 10s of thousands of years. We've had enough hints throughout the timeline that not all of them are comfortable with their lot in life that I think it could be the kind of thing that could lead to a really interesting major conflict that would feel very different from the Separatists, Empire or First Order.

I'll believe it when something starts production, having finished pre-production, the actual movie is being made, and even then, trailer, in the theater. I trust nothing after all the projects that have been announced, begun and were then canceled or just faded away.

I’m only gonna stay hyped when we have more concrete evidence like a trailer. Doesn’t mean I won’t get interested if we get a trailer, but I need more details. Major bonus if this actually ties back into the timeframe after the ST (NO, hundreds of years past it DOES NOT COUNT).
