It's funny how people are now embracing what my Foundational Black American ancestors knew about the medicinal benefits of plants and herbs. Rootworkers were the medical professionals of our community. Even the white supremacist slave "owners" would come to the rootworkers for help with illnesses. Rootworkers also knew how to use their skills as a weapon to protect the community from whites. This is why Rootwork was outlawed by whites under penalty of death. My great great grandmother was a Rootworker. Many of the remedies she knew were passed down from generation to generation. My mother bought a Rootwork bag her mother gave to her when she got married moved to the Midwest from the south. I still remember her making various teas and mixtures when got sick with a bug. Those mixtures cured us faster than these modern medicines. Probably because they came from the source (aka root).

It's that chemical universe problem again. As far as I know except for aspirin all medications have to be synthetic or the pharmaceutical company doesn't make any money.. same problem.
