Joscha Bach is arguably one of the most intelligent and percipient—yet under-appreciated and oft overlooked —thinkers of our time. His ideas are highly analytical and insightful, conveying a remarkably multifaceted and unequivocal profundity. I am glad Curt as been able to speak with him as much as he has thus far; however, I would love to see ever more!

WAIT the board has no equity in OpenAI???
Then the only reason they would fire him wouldnt be financial, but because he discovered / accomplished something significant..
Something their advisors dont want open in the commercial market.

Indeed, hi praise to Curt for putting this together so quickly! This completely justifies my Patreon support (not for rewards, but for value to the commons!).

In 7.5 minutes, I got a better grasp of some core dynamics than I had after listening to several other takes. This is less a focus on drama as a school-yard tussle, and more of the feeling of tensegrity at the forefront of AI development.

Joscha's take on why Microsoft created the backstop to allow the whole of OpenAI to cohere as a collective body (despite the egoic head/board decision attempting to force whatever decision it was trying to acheive) was stellar. Like Formula 1 and World Championship Go combined, but live sport with real stakes.

I just hope that we all remember that AI is getting better fast enough that even these apex predators may not be able to stay ahead of the curve for very much longer. We must start thinking very quickly about collective structures in the commons to elicit hyper-agile hybrid of collective-wisdom linked with AI proficiency.

Great analysis by Joscha, which is totally unsurprising. There will be whole business courses taught on how Satya handled this moment.

I can't with this channel, the smartest people in the world showing up every day like it's work

A New York’s Times Hard Fork column about five days ago describes the culture at OpenAI as dominated by people who want to build a “new God.” This is the truth behind these corporate machinations is in the realm of a techno-zealotry of religious proportions.

You're an excellent interviewer. I sub to over 200 channels, and frankly, you're perhaps #1 as you do long form interviews, you delve into very interesting topics and don't shy away from being technical. Thank you.

Kurt is an open minded, rational, deep thinker, as opposed to Lex Friedman who often comes across as a naive, establishment gatekeeper who pushes academic dogma. Lex has great guests but he always seems extremely nervous and determined to defend the establishment regardless of the mounting evidence of academias unwillingness to a accept novel ideas that challenge long standing orthodoxy. Kurt seems genuinely interested in finding the truth while Lex often seems set on arguing for ideas that have failed to produce advances in our understanding of reality or have been stagnant for decades.

i think Joscha might be the leading mind in terms of AI i’ve found so far. he’s so smart and has a unique perspective that rings very true to me.

I learned two new words reading the comments on this TOE clip... percipient, and tensegrity, though I think this one was misapplied. TOE never fails to deliver learning in all the ways! So. Awesome.

Thank you for getting Joscha Bach thoughts on this out 😅

I was surprised to learn that Musk was one of the founders of OpenAI.

I love Joscha but I'm often left wondering whether he even answered the question (like the Microsoft question at the end). Questions are more like free association prompts for him.

The only thing missing from Joscha analysis is ignoring human malice role in all this.

Curt, I appreciate that you let discussion flow as it needed to without contributing any believe or bias in the you still managed to reaffirm with us your belief with that little welcome back message in this video's credits 😉
Subtle but reaffirming. Your psychological journalism skills are above normal Curt. You foster a genuine feeling of wanting to know people's opinions to take it in and not just to formulate a position around or position an argument?
It's your ability to get out of the way of a topic and let it flow whilst simultaneously capable on honing in to very specifics about a topic to get answers! What I mean is that you can steer a topic just as well as you let it flow 😉
These are skills rarely seen in 1 person as most people that try to control a subject can't let it flow so it congests, stagnates and doesn't progress; alternatively people that let a subject just flow unguided often don't have the ability to steer things back on track and become the whim of who they are interviewing? It's just what happens but not with you Curt. You are too well organised to allow a topic of course when you are conscious of time and coverage of the topic.
And then when things get too exciting, juicy and you somehow have the ability to override the constraints (Elizondo podcasts for example) and That's allowed too and we love it. It's that you got strict rules but you've also got strict exceptions and somehow that aligns with your audience (speaking for myself here obviously).

Curt I think you are the ultimate Sigma bro 👌
