EZGZ Style Dual KADRON Carburetor Review

Dual Kadron Carburetors will really wake up most any VW air cooled engine. These Dual Kadron 40mm carbs were probably designed by the same folks that made the stock carb that came on your VW engine. The big difference is that they weren't made to meet the power robbing emissions standards. They were made to make Smooth Reliable Horsepower. They have a lot in common with the popular Weber IDF carburetors but with half the problems as they are almost half the size with half the parts. That means when you want to experiment with different jet combination's you don't have to buy 4 of everything. They have many options so you can dial them in to your specific engine needs. This particular pair of 40mm Kadrons where on my 69 Baja when I bought it. It had a 1600 DP with a scat C25 camshaft and Baja style header exhaust. I wanted to take my Baja on a cross country trip. So I decided to freshen up that 1600. I turned it into a 1800 cc project engine with more stroke and larger bore 74 X 88 . Rather than spend the money rejetting The Kadrons I used a old set of Dual 36 Dellorto's that were ready to go. I have an old 1600 DP that started the whole Heartbreak Hill adventure. I'd like to put these Kadrons on and see how it does. So like and subscribe and stay tuned for that in the future.

I run Kaddies on my 1776 bus. It took some tuning, but they work pretty well.

Just saying Mr EZGZ I've seen most of your vids on carb stuff and without a doubt you are one of the most knowledgeable persons out there on this VW stuff. Thank you for all your efforts we are all lucky to have you around.

Just discovered your channel dude and about to build and carry out some moderate tuning to a 1640 motor for my girlfriends 73 beetle wizard. Your content and knowledge will come in very handy for the build! 👌

I'm the one that mentioned about the Kadrons in the last video, , I have set of them got them in the new in the early 90 ty's I've changed the linkage up I put heim joints on it ran great. Since then I put on Kaddy shacks linkage on. Cleans it up a lot and looks really good.. These carbs have been on my rail buggy, I've started out with a 1600 then 1680 this engine I put forty valve heads on and a 110 engle cam. Now I run a 1835 with the same cam and heads. I did change the jet size from a 130 to a 140 and it run great I haven't changed the ventri in it yet It still the 28 in it.. Kaddy shack said to I should be at a 160 jet with 32 ventri. Anyway thank you for posting a little about the carbs! Keep up the great fun video's!!

The synclink throttle system is a bad ASS system. It's like having a normal modern throttle feel on the pedal. Like butter!! And so EZ to adjust. I have it on my 2276 and I absolutley love it!!! I'll Never have a hex bar linkage again. Love your vids EZ!!! Thanks for all you do for the vw community! We appreciate all you do!!

Thanks for the great video. I’m running Kadron’s on the 1776, that I just built. I have been in contact with the kaddy shack, and will be ordering jets and Venturi’s from them soon. Great bunch of guys. I have a brand new set of NOS kadrons, still in the box, I’m saving.

I really like your videos. My 1st big bore engine ran on 40 Kads. Such a nice combo. I always wanted to set up a set of those with a Berg linkage.

Great nuggets in this video.
1600, c25 cam and those carbs make for one heck of a little combo.

Great examination of all about the dual Kadron's. Nice solid carb for a lot of cars.

Always nice to hear you again.
This is an old technology that was made to work, not made to comply with some political views. 👍

Keep up that good Info Ez, still working on my single carb set up on my 1835... need a fuel regulator and floats were set. Still have a stutter 2000-3000. After that it’s fine.. keep you posted.

The kadrons are great simple carbs, I was surprised how well they made a stock 1600 perform and how reliable they were. I’ve only worked with one set as they don’t seem very popular here in the uk. Lots of junky icts with dead bushings wobbling about, we Chuck them out and go back to stock!

Thank for the video. Good info, my beetle came with them, so far no problems, here at 5400 ft elevation in eastern Utah. I do know that Jeff Lain with Kaddie Shack has some tutorials out.

Where would we be without Kadron....?The company did a lot of research in the early 80's and came up with a kit that was fit for domestic drivers as well as the racer!
Back in the day Kadron also launched a range of header exhaust's to go with the their twin solex carb kit....The hot set up back then was Twin Solex H40 Kadron kit, a Kadron 'K300' exhaust and some bolt up 1.25:1 complete bolt on performance carb kit got a bad rep for the 'clip' on linkage and the early kits had Steel manifolds, some failed at the welds and cracking was reported. many people were left on the side of the road because the linkage failed or the steel manifold failed. Kadron didnt give up, they then produced a aluminium intake manifold and solved that problem.
Shame, had the linkage issues was never really solved by Kadron, had they designed a cross bar think Kadron would have ruled for much longer! And as you say, simple and affordable to fix, in keeping with the aircooled way of thinking.

Hey EZGZ another great video. For what it's worth ill share my experience with running a single kadron on a vw engine. When I first built my supercharged engine with a little amr500, I originally had a Rochester 1 barrel off of my dads 250 straight 6. I got it to idle but trying to drive it would stumble and cough and it only had 1 jet and I was much more familiar with a solex or weber so I made an adapter plate and put one of my single kad's on it. I was able to drill up the idle and main jet to where it drove really nice part throttle and wide open then ordered a set of proper jets. The main issue I had was the cruise air fuel ratio, it would go pig rich and only get about 8 mpg. No matter which jet I changed it would either be too lean on light acceleration or to lean wot in boost. I even tried removing the venturi but I summed it up to being too strong of a draw on the main's venturi since it was designed to feed only 2 cylinders and now I was giving it double duty plus the suck of a supercharger underneath it. I ended up putting the Rochester back on it and drilled the jet up a couple sizes and it was as close to perfect as one could ask(back up to high 20's mpg and almost perfect afr, almost like efi) the only downside was the bowl would seep fuel. It was a fun project and great to learn from.

As far as dual kaddies go I would agree they are a great set of carbs but nothing compares to the king idf! Have a good one thanks for the videos

Nice to hear good information on the kadrons, though I never tried one, I had one, but never got a chance to try them, because those weber 36's run so well on my 1600

Ótimos carburadores, uso em um 1700, com alguns trabalhos nas flautas fica ótimo 👍🏽
