Sharing a 2-day itinerary in Kagawa and the west of Tokushima. We went to Takamatsu all the way from Osaka in a 3-hour drive to realise most landmarks were closed due to the typhoon 🥲 but we got super super lucky on both days with a beautiful rainbow, storm clouds clearing, and a stunning sunset! Plus there were only a few locals and us in the destinations, as if we booked the entire area for ourselves 🙈🙊

Day 1 - Takamatsu
📍 Takamatsu Castle Park: A park that restores the ruins of Takamatsu Castle, also known as Tamano Castle, which is one of Japan’s three major water castles. Enjoy the Japanese-style garden inside the castle walls to experience the Japanese tradition in the park.
📍 Yashimāru - Yashima Mountaintop Communal Facility: An art work of the Setouchi Triennale 2022 that was designed to blend into the surrounding natural environment. You can walk along the transparent corridor to immerse yourself into the nature, history, and culture of Yashima, overlooking the view of the Seto Inland Sea and Takamatsu city from the mountain top.

Day 2 - Kanoji, Miyoshi, and Mitoyo
📍 Unpenji: Access the Snow Park Unpenji by the Unpenji Ropeway to enjoy the “Swing in the Sky” with a spectacular view of the Mitoyo Plain and the Seto Inland Sea. Don’t miss out on the Unpenji Temple with the impressive display of the 500 Arhats stone statues, the saints in Buddhist legends that protect believers and tourists who come to worship. Each statue has its own unique physical features, emotional expressions, and pose! 😮
📍 Oboke & Koboke: Challenge the rapids by whitewater rafting, canyoning or kayaking down the Yoshino River, or get on the Oboke Sightseeing Boat Cruise to appreciate the natural beauty of the river valley.
📍 Vine Bridge in the Iya Valley: Cross one of three kinds of unusual bridges in Japan while looking down for a thrilling experience.
📍Chichibugahama Beach: A popular spot with Japan’s best sunset view. To get the most stunning view is to visit on a windless evening at low tide, where the tide pool reflects the beautiful sky to form a “mirror of the sky”. We didn’t expect to see the mirror and sunset as it was raining as we drove to the spot, but it stopped as soon as we got off the car, and we even got to see that beautiful sunset!
