More Information:
In the microgravity environment of space, the spine decompresses because there’s no constant gravitational force pulling down on the body. This allows the vertebrae in the spine to expand slightly, causing astronauts to temporarily grow taller by up to 2 inches. However, when they return to Earth, the body is once again subject to gravity, and the spine compresses back to its normal length within a few days.
