Covid-19 vaccine candidates in India & their status: All you need to know

Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort spoke about Covid-19 vaccines undergoing testing in India. PM Modi said that three vaccines are currently being tested and lauded the role of scientists who have been working day & night to successfully produce a vaccine to tackle the pandemic. The Prime Minister said that a mechanism for the distribution of the vaccines is already in place and will be put into effect as soon as it is given a green signal by scientists. Later, MoS Health Ashwini Choubey said that the vaccines would first be given to corona warriors across the country. The phase 1 and 2 human clinical trials of two of the vaccine candidates, developed by Bharat Biotech, in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research and Zydus Cadila Ltd, are currently underway. The Serum Institute of India has been permitted to conduct Phase 2 and 3 human clinical trials of the third vaccine candidate developed by Oxford University.
