If I wasn't married to the Ryobi battery platform, I wouldn't walk into the Homedepot in my area. It is filthy, the aisles are crowded with product that you can't get your cart past, and the employees know nothing about the products they have (Pro desk excluded). Most are less than friendly and don't want to assist you if they can avoid you

In Southern California the Lowe's are way cleaner, the staff are more friendly, and the quality of products are a lot better than Home Depot.

Both stores could learns a few things from Menards. The Menards plumbing section is beyond comprehensive and organized. They have a massive stainless pipe fitting niche for those who do home brewing as well. Lastly, the outdoor masonry yard competes with those who deal in masonry solely.

The day i bought my EGO snow blower i became a dedicated Lowes shopper. That was 3 years and i have no regrets and haven't looked back since then. I have bought hundreds of dollars of great bargains i never got being at HD.
And I cant say enough about my Kobalt tools, ❤ them!

I want to do more DIY projects through Lowe's, but have never been comfortable in the stores in Maine. Ther Home Depots near me have great service and I feel welcome every time.

In general, I shop HD for rough building products and Lowe's for finish products.
I am locked into Ryobi for battery tools, but I get quite a few hand tools from Lowe's. I have 2 HD stores between me and the nearest Lowe's.
At both, there are products I can buy from only one or the other.

The REAL "customer" of these companies is the STOCKHOLDER. Once they keep the STOCKHOLDER happy then they worry about the customer buying paint, lumber, etc. And then they work on keeping the hired help happy. The upper management always wear tailored suits and "roll up their sleeves" and parade around in the ridiculous aprons or vests they have the peeons wear everyday.

Menards for the win, better selction except tools, buy most everything at menards, buy my ryobi and dewalt at home depot and craftsman items at lowes or local ace. i go to lowes and home depot to buy stuff cheap on clearance. do 90% of my home shopping at menards including pretzels pop chips and frozen pizzas at menards as they are cheaper than wal mart or jewel.

Have Marvin come to my Lowe’s store in Mount Vernon Ohio. It is a dump. It’s so poorly run and managed that I drive an extra 40 minutes to go to a Home Depot.

In Torrance, SoCal, I have a Lowe's and Home Depot that are a block away from each other and I shop at both equally. However, Lowe's is a lot cleaner and better organized, and the staff is definitely friendlier and more helpful than at Home Depot. Also the quality of the home products seems to be higher. I use the orange store for certain tool brands and accessories.

Walking into Lowes in My town is like walking into Odd Lots or Walmart. Side stacks are everywhere. Its never fully staffed and finding help is a quest from Zelda. If you go down the street to Menards it is a totally different story. Product placement is where it should be. Rarely do I need to start a quest for help. The store is clean and well managed. You can definitely tell which company invests money back into the company vs a company being leached by shareholders.
