Some people apply the current understanding of the term "nation"  to the past, which is a key mistake. In the past the language you spoke was not so relevant. It was perfectly OK to be Lithuanian and also Polish or Rutenian speakers. With 19th century nationalism people were forced to choose and the language became a criterion of national identity.

My great grandfather fought the Poles near Giedraičiai in 1920. But to hold negative opinion on each other due to this bullshit that happened 100 years ago and was a brief conflict in many many centuries of cooperation and so many shared victories against very same enemies is stupid. Especially when we yet again both face very real possibility to fight the Muscovites again. Every 50-100 years we both get attacked and until then always fought together. It has to remain like this forever, for us to be allies.
