This is such a blessing. Technology gets a bad rap these days, but being able to spend an hour in what feels like a personal conversation with one of the most gifted psychologists on earth it truly amazing.

I had a person in my life who enjoyed watching me hurt. We went to a psychologist to get some help. After one counseling session, I went back alone. The counselor asked, you do understand that person is willing to hurt you? -Me: yes. - the counselor’s. Next question was life changing. They said, Imagine yourself as a 3 year old and someone is doing this. What would you tell yourself to do? The light went on and I was able to take action. All in an hour and a half.

Just learned I am an intervert, had no idea how common that is, have been a total outcast my whole life, the strange one, the slow one, never fitting in, anyways now I know, and now I know so much more about life situations from your teachings, thank you so much Dr. Phil, feels good to know my value to myself, I don't care what anyone says or thinks about me anymore.

I've learned to keep my plans to myself the hard way too. Just like the story Dr. Phil shared, I told a coworker about a supervisor role that opened up, and at the last minute she also applied. Although neither of us got the role, I realized I made the competition tougher for myself by talking openly about my hopes and dreams. Never doing that again.

Wondering if this is how it would have felt to have a father daughter conversation. Thank you for the beautiful insight, Dr. Phil.

When someone says "You have to do something big, what is your purpose" etc etc it just dawned on me that I do not have to "DO" something like reinvent the wheel or become the next millionaire with a great invention. My TOXIC mother tried to crush me, to destroy me. Well she is dead now, and I get up every morning, go to work, I am a productive member of society. She wanted me to be under a bed somewhere or a mental institution curled in a fetal position "crying for mommy". I survived in spite of her toxic, manipulative behavior.

The way I sometimes like to say it is that nobody is owed a relationship. This was initially a response to highly poisonous abusive relatives who eventually gave up even bothering to deny the abuse and intrusion, in favour of trying to dictate that absorbing abuse is a duty, and that allowing my agenda to be derailed and my primary relationship to be undermined and hijacked to conform to their use of me for their purposes is an obligation.
Once one really understands that one does not owe anyone else a relationship, no matter who they are, the rest follows easily.

Dr
Phil, I'm coming in late on this subject but have listened to all the information and wisdom you have shared with the public. And so appreciate all you have explained for years. Have read all your book ( great help). You have spoken of judgement, Spitural Decernment has been my route for years. I am 69 yrs. Old and lived with a vulnerable covert narcissist for 45 yrs. He died in Jan., Thank God, freedom from all the abuse. But I learned so much over the yrs.
Have been Detoxing for 11 months.
Life is so good. Have put your strategies to work over the last 8 yrs. and it worked.
Thank you again Dr.Phil, you are appreciated and may God continue to bless you for your humanitaring efforts!

Thank you. I have worked as a caregiver for over 20 years. I retired in March. My last 16 years was in ICU. I was the Unit clerk, CNA, EKG Tech, . I was the one who filled in the cracks. Then the Pandemic came and everything was changing almost hourly at first. I worked with all types of personalities. I'd seen every management style. The last one being a beauty queen/mean girl combo. I was depressed about retiring but my body could no longer take the physical strain. I believe now looking back watching good nurses under so much stress and so many people die that I was headed to a nervous breakdown. I couldn't help the way I wanted to. Now I am free to find myself. Thank you for your insights.

The more I control my life and set clear and concise boundaries with MYSELF, the sweeter and more relaxed I can be with everyone else. It’s a miracle of the very best kind.

P. S. Feed the birds!

I didn't also get a job because I talked about it with my staff. The staff knew who the owner was and told their own friend about the position and hooked them up with the job because they knew the owner.
I learned to never tell anyone about your plans regarding carrier or goals.
Also dont tell anyone about who you are dating.

I grew up never let the left hand know what the right hand is doing. These sessions have been outstanding have opened up my eyes and seeing people that are in my life that need to be out.

They are bad, they are evil and they destroy people. As an empathic person I thought as you recommend at 5:30, and I am sorry but the only thing that is saving me now is finally realising it was not my fault, no matter how nice i was these people had an intention to hurt me right from the start because I am a nice person. Now that is evil. And Bad. No recognition of what I am, only what they can use me for, for their own purpose. Now my healing is really beginning because from this perspective I am finding some ground to forgive myself for allowing this, rather than give them allowances and say they really weren't that bad. I am speaking of sexual assualt, which quite frankly is absolutely atrocious. And child abuse.

I have cut off a friend who is a raging alcoholic. I claimed the right to put distance between us until she will accept help. But there are other friends who put up with all of her BS and enable her. I’m worried she will die (she is in liver failure) and she’ll die believing that I abandoned her. I trust I did the right thing for both of us.
