I'd totally recommend to anyone to try spicy food at least with some meals, even if it's just a few dabs of hot sauce. The feeling of heat really opens your tastebuds up which makes food taste stronger, at least to me that is. When i order spicy food when I'm eating with friends, it's not to show off, it's because i think it tastes better. At nandos i always order extra hot because I've built up a tolerance and it's the only sauce that feels hot.

Fun mini story, one of my friends is indian and she hosted a Christmas party in December for our group. She made drinks for everyone and included some more aromatic spices in there and i was able to guess every single one. She said "no offence, but i wouldn't expect a white person to get them all right"

Since capsaicin isn't the only "spicy" molecule, you can actually be sensitive to some spicy foods but not others. I can eat Wasabi, spicy horseradish, and hot mustard with no problem, but Jalapeños and Tabasco are too much for me.
